According to tech reviewers, it's MIUI that is bad at RAM management.

You can turn off MIUI optimization...but I think if you do that, you may not get updates..

Settings - Battery - choose apps - select the app you need to stay in the background - no restriction.
It you are not satisfied then go type settings - About phone - tap miui version for about 6 times to enable developer options. Then return to settings - Additional settings - Developer options - scroll down to the last option and Turn off miui optimisation.
