Please this is not a complaint rather I need assistance.

This new control center on Miui 12 I can't see my notifications like WhatsApp messages and co.
Is this how it is or is there a way to set it? If not let me use the old control center.


Don't know if I explained properly
To see your notifications swipe down on the left side. It'll show all of them. To see your control center swipe the right side. If you don't like it check control center in the system settings and switch off the new one.

I've not noticed this though. For swiping down from left or right gives the same result. What am I missing?

Looks like you're on MIUI 11. This is a MIUI 12 feature. When you update it'll look like this:
