eitsei: Its a great fortune that Allah blessed you with parents that were foresighted and wise enough to know the importance of Islamic knowledge especially for a female child. You owe them a lot, I ask Allah to make it easy for you to be grateful for this mercy. As for your name, it wasn't mispelt. in Arabic language when nuun that has sukuun preceedes the letter ba, the nuun is to be pronounced as meem not nuun anymore. This is what the scholars of tajweed call iqlaab or qalb (transformation or change). If you pick up your Quran and check the following verse : Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 12: إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). (English - Mohsin Khan) via iQuran You will find a small written above the letter nuun showing that you should do qalb. Allah knows best. 2 Likes 1 Share |

My name na number one on your list. Lol. Meanwhile, I see no big deal in the corruption of the names. Yoruba corrupts anything, not just Muslim names.Try as much as possible to correct people that mispronounce your name, but no need to fight or quarrel with anyone over it. After all, some people prefer the corrupted version. I had a lecturer in the university who told Muslim brothers not to call him Dhikrullah, that he is Sikiru. And he is a Muslim. 2 Likes |

Comanche: Aameen wa iyyaak. AlhamduliLlah for the clarification of the names. The adding of u to the names is because the u is actually there but the Arabs don't pronounce the last vowel of the word. So they simply say Aminah. But natural Yoruba speakers will find it hard to pronounce a cluster of consonants or to to end a word without a vowel sound. So, they pronounce the last vowel. The best solution to this is to ensure that we see proper Islamic education and also make sure our children don't suffer the ignorance we have suffered. Allah knows best. |

Jazakallahu khairan. I think it depends a lot on the parents and environment too. Yorubas can spoil name ehn, all those grandmas I never knew Dhikrullah was Sikiru, such a beautiful name, but if the parents call the child with the right pronunciation, it will influence others to call it the right way. A man named his daughter 'KaoKab' not sure of the spelling or meaning, that day, the old mamas started calling the baby 'Kabukabu', the father didn't allow them though, if you can't pronounce it right then use her yoruba name. I have a small cousin named 'Rahmat', if you don't pronounce her name well, maybe like call her 'Ramota', she doesn't care who you are, she will not answer, if she is in a good mood, she'll correct. 2 Likes 1 Share |

hahn: Sorry, but the Quran and sunnah are both from Allah. Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers' way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination. Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): "If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, قُلْ أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْكَافِرِينَ Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW)." But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers. What Allah gave as booty (Fai') to His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from the people of the townships, - it is for Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), the kindred (of Messenger Muhammad SAW), the orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), and the wayfarer, in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. ]b]And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it), and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment. (English - Mohsin Khan) via iQuran So what do you say about the above verses. |
Friday Islamic and Moral Diet Series (FIMDS) 4 Some people just mispronounce Muslim names and many of us don't see it as a problem. Barring my knowledge of Historical Linguistics, how did Siraaj turn to Suraju, Zulaykhah to Suliya, Khadeejah to Adija, Is'haq to Siaka, Ibraheem to Brahimo or Buremo, 'Aasiyah to Siata, Dhikrullah to Sikiru, Sa'eed to Saidi, Moryam to Mori, Shaakirah to Saki, Ridwan to Riliwan, Misbah to Musibau, Zulfah to Silifa, Sofiyyah to Sefiya, 'Abdulmojeed to Mojidi, and Najmuddeen to Naajimu, Fadheelah to Fali, Faatihah to Fetia and so on? I know some prominent OPC members called Kasimu Sànpòn-ná, Wasiu Akerese, Taofiki Agbónonlé and Taoridi Sangoté. What happened to Qoosim, 'AbdulWas'i, Tawfiq and Tawheed? Is it because they were not even Muslims? There are Yoruba films titled Muniru ati Ambali, Jelili Oniso, Monsuru, Monsuratu, Mufu Olóòsà Oko, Aminatu, Sikiratu Sindodo, Aafa Sule et cetera. How did these names change from Muneer and Hambal, Abduljeleel, Miftah, Aameenah and Sulaymon? Are the producers ignoramuses or they have an axe to grind? Are we suffering from inferiority complex? Only a joker answers to a corrupted Muslim name. Your freedom begins from what you accept as your name or your child's name. 'When the child is born, one of the first ways in which he is to be honoured is by giving him a good name, because a good name will have a good impact on the heart when it is first heard.'[/b Op, Sulaymon, Moryam and Abdulmojeed are a corrupt version of Sulaiman, Maryam and Abdulmajeed. Arabic does not have the vowel 'o'. Yorubas just tend to replace fat'ha with an 'o'. 1 Like |
