“You (Buhari) set up a committee called transition committee. It suggested that you deregulate the whole thing about crude oil, but no, you won’t. Your ideas go back 30 years and they are irrelevant to this world. Open up your mind and listen to people and you can make progress. To lead is to serve.

“To lead, you must be knowledgeable. People don’t follow somebody who doesn’t know where he is going. Otherwise, you fall into a ditch.”

It is hard decision PMB has to take but I have to disagree with the time. This is not the appropriate time, things are very expensive.

there is never good time. this is d best since oil price is less than 50 dollars. As oil price increase, fuel price increase.
subsidizing petrol is paying subsidy for comfort and luxury. With fuel subsidy removed, people will start using public transport as we have it in Europe. people will stop owning 5 cars. etc. We will adjust to the new reality and sew our coat according to our cloth.

The country is too poor to be subsidizing luxury/comfort. We lack too many infrastructures to be wasting so much on subsidy.

I think the best time to have deregulated the sector was in february when oil price fell to $28. Today it's still less than $50 and even though it's a bit late, now is still a very good time to remove subsidies completely since the effect on the pump price wouldnt be so much. In fact, with the prevailing fuel scarcity and with Nigerians presently paying over N150 for fuel, now is the best time to remove subsidies since the price shock wouldnt be too felt.
