One person was, yesterday, confirmed dead while others sustained injuries when a container fell on adjoining shanties during relocation of containers at Sifax Container Terminal, Ijora, Lagos.
It was learned that the three containers fell from the rack onto the structures while the occupants were still asleep.
The deceased was simply identified as Ezinne, while the injured were identified as Babatunde Ademowo and Jide James.
Vanguard gathered that the tragedy occurred between 4.00 and 5.00a.m. during the heavy downpour experienced across the state, yesterday.
When Vanguard visited the scene at about 10a.m., the Emergency Rescue Team comprising Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, men of the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigerian Police and others were sighted at the scene recovering the deceased from the rubble.
Sources said that the Sifax container terminal located at 110/112 Ijora Road few meters away from Ijora Bus-stop, embarked on night arrangement of their containers, which eventually fell on the structures in the community.
Speaking to Vanguard, the Iyalode of Iganmu Alawo, Ijora-Badia, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oshindele, said one person was rescued from the building, while over two persons, who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Oshindele noted that the deceased was an apprentice at a fashion designing outfit in the community before her demise.
The Iyalode lamented that the company operated over-night without minding the repercussion of their activities on the residents.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, General Manager, Mr. Akin Akindele, said that the agency’s assessment indicated that operational activities were carried out without floodlights and safety procedures.

It's so heartbreaking that in this country, safety is not guaranteed even when sleeping under your own roof. RIP to the dead.
