The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Company (SSAEAC) have jointly giving a 21-day ultimatum to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and the Federal Government to address the issue of huge debt owed the company by the government.

Besides, the unions want the government and the PHCN management to address the dubious Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and the lack of gas supply to Thermal Station.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting between the National Union of the Electricity Employees and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies on one hand and the management of Power Holding of Nigeria at the instance of Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

The two unions also told the government to address the imposition of World Bank and other loans repayment to PHCN. They also demanded for the elimination of tariff regime and recourse to alternative sources of power generation and transparent management.

After an extensive deliberation on these issues, it was also agreed that the management of PHCN and the unions will forward a comprehensive analysis and implications on all issues raised to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

The Ministry is also saddled with the responsibility to in turn take the matter up with the Ministry of Power and the Presidency for appropriate action. It was also agreed that the trade unions would in turn extend their ultimatum by 14 days from date of expiration.
