Do you have a child who is grasping with the 'difficult' task of learning the multiplication tables? I know multiplication comes easy to you now, though I guess it always wasn't that easy some year ago. Here are some ideas that will help.

Try the 2-way Recitation
Recite the table in both forward and reverse direction. For example, start from 3 X 1= 3 to 3 X 12= 36 ; then do it backwards from 3 X 12= 36 to 3 X 1= 3.

Help him/her with the Squares
Help the child to learn the table of squares. This serves as landmarks for him/her while trying to learn the multiplication tables.
2 X 2=4
3 X 3=9
4 X 4=16
5 X 5=25
6 X 6=36
7 X 7=49
8 X 8=64
9 X 9=81
10 X 10=100
11 X 11=121
12 X 12=144

Make it fun
Turn learning into fun by being innovative. Bring the multiplication tables into fun activities that you share with your child. You can recite a particular table with him/her while playing or sing along the table with him/her.

Reward
Design a positive reinforcement system. Let your child into a plan to reward him for getting the tables right. You may promise him/her a gift after you confirm that a table is already well learnt.

Commit yourself to show love to your child by helping him/her to learn, and have fun while doing it. Be dynamic, be friendly.
