I have the following points to make 1. These hunters are already armed by profession so the argument that the government is arming private citizen is not valid. This is common sense 2. By virtue of the profession of hunters and based on their knowledge/adaption of their native/local environment they are mostly used as security guards. Like in Oke Ogun area of Oyo state, the hunters have the support of the government and they are used to secure highways against robbers. Also in a tertiary Institution I know hunters are also used. So its not new that hunters are being commissioned to secure a particular place from intruders. Even according to history in Yoruba land hunters have always been used as security forces and military forces and they even go to war then. So the argument that they can't be used hold no water. And since they av been used I av not heard that they turn against the common people or engage in arm robbery. Like Oke Ogun in Oyo, robbery was very rampant until the hunters were used. 3. The success story of the defeat of Boko haram is not complete without mentioning the Civilian JTF which are hunters with the backings of the Federal Govt. In fact if not that they were brought in the war will still b on a high side till today. Now we can see the effect of what local hunters can do. They know every corner of their communities and thus they are a good instrument 4 community protection. If federal Govt can use hunters without any repercussion, then I don't know why state can't use them. 4. Without war there cannot b peace. That violence can't be used to solve violence is vague in the context of blood shedding. We are talking about war here not quarrel or misunderstanding between husband and wife. A country go to war in order to protect her citizens, properties and territory. This is war. A defensive mechanism is needed. When it's severe offensive mechanism is needed. History of war and its outcome can b studied. This is not even the first time Ekiti will b brought under oppression, the first time it happened they fought back in a war called Ekiti parapo and they were liberated. 5. If this step taken by Ekiti governor had been taken when Boko haram menace was still at infant, we might not have it dis tough. #History repeat itself. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. #Say no to Herdsmen attack 2 Likes 3 Shares |

P skill4biz: Pls dnt get me wrong. I dont support fulani herdsmen, far from it. Infact I wish the army can crush and flush them out. My only concern is that those weapons the hunters will acquire will one day be used on innocent citizens through burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping 1 Like |

Seems Fayose has taken proactive action against the miscreants or killer herdsmen before they breed in large number and turn to something else in southwest. Plateau, Benue, Taraba, probably Kogi and Enugu as a case study. The herdsmen has a motive which is to fight and displace people hosting them at various communities in the long run. Volumes of blood shed where they come from might have caused serious consequences in their lands, thus causing them to find a way to weaken and control the south, so that they can migrate to the zone. Local hunters are known to have better understanding of their terrains and well skilled in dealing with threats (wild animals and people) against their communities esp where the conventional security could have wasted enormous resources and personnel with little or no success. |
