I've been with Zain (Econet Wireless, Vodacom, V-Mobile, and only God knows what next!) since inception, and used to be one of their greatest fanatics by far. I vowed to remain loyal to Zain, and stoutly defended most of their gafes until recently when I noticed that they've been the greatest cheats. Now, I only still use my Zain no cos peeps know me by it; otherwise, I it should by now be swimming in the atlantic! Those crooks ought to be called to order. They've been cheating us blind. Everything they claimed, especially since turning to 'Zain' has always had k-leg. Hope the NCC is listening to consumers' complaint!

MTN xtra cool is the counterpart of xtra connect. You can't expect to do midnite calls every nite and have friends and family tariffs, you must choose one. Here s the contrast between xtra cool and xtra connect:

Xtra cool offers free night calls while Xtra connect does not.
Xtra cool sms costs #5 per sms while Xtra connect costs #7 per sms.
Xtra cool offers free mms every month while Xtra connect does not.
Xtra cool does not do friends and family while Xtra connect allows 4 friends and family numbers for lower tariffs.
Xtra cool calls as charged at #0.53k or #0.48k during off-peak periods per sec while Xtra connect calls are charged at #0.50k or #0.42k during off-peak periods.
Xtra connect offers more call me backs every day than Xtra cool.
So as you can see above there must be a balance between the two tariff plans. Migration is free for the first time in a month, subsequent migrations are charged at #100.

@iniguy course i'm right. I think many people will agree with me that MTN is one of the most stable networks when it comes to their tariffs and plans.

@poster, i am not familiar with Mtn but i can say that Zain has not cancelled family and friends. With the new Zain default platform which is Zain Jolie, you have as one of the four options - Jolie paddy. If you choose this option, you can add 10 F and F numbers and pay as low as 25k/second or N15/min for call to those numbers. I tell you my peeps, Zain Jolie offers the cheapest prepaid rates in Nigeria at the moment. If you are already on the Zain network, dial *210*10# or simply buy a new Zain Simcard to start enjoying these cheap rates, believe me!

I think i've been experiencing some issues on my Zain sim too. I sent a strong worded mail to their customer care on various issues since tuesday and as i'm sending this they are yet to acknowledge my mail not to talk of fixing the issues.

I worked in Telecom Customer Care for 4 years and i can tell you that with my experiences (ranging from inability to recharge, wrong billing for F&F and other numbers etc) as a Zain customer, the network sucks. They even charged me for calling their 111 and the dude that picked my call was an ignoramus- poor diction, no CRM skills and unable to appease a furious customer. Little wonder they sell it every quarter.

While it's true that there are network challenges every, it amounts to gross irresponsibility on Zain's part to ignore my mail. I hope their staff are reading this before i start a war against them on Nairaland.

well in my own case, i maximise d 2 packages; i am on xtra connect while my call partner is on xtra cool

so if we wish 2 make nite calls, she calls me. on the other hand, i call her thru my FAF package whenevr we wish 2 talk during d day

Te fact is i have been recieving sms saying that i could experience problems on most of their freebies program due to a technical upgrade (particularly after a recharge).
This has been going on for almost two months now so i wonder if they have any plan to finish the upgrade or we should just swap their sim for another network

I use Zain right from inception way back. I just called their customer care 111 now ( free ) customer and was able to deduce they are trying to migrate people to this new JOLI so as to prevent peeps from getting both free SMS and all night call at once .

So with the new package U either get ur free SMS or free night calls and not both.

Well I told the soft speaking babe (customer care) that I would stick to my old package “Simply smooth”.

But I suspect they would prevent new peeps from adding F and F on any of there old package!

just migrate to joli with *201*10# and you are on. all what the poster and his/her cohorts dey yarn na mtn bullshit.
I was on simply special before migrating to Joli, now i call any network at 50k/sec and zain not on my faf list at 40k/sec, then my 10 faf list na 25k/sec, I called a friend mobile line in the US yesterday @ 25k/sec (Joli yonda).
just dial *210# for info. All ur mtn subscribers it's time to migrate to a wonderful world of zain.
mind you i no be zain member of staff and never bother to try mtn b4, but i ve been using zain 4 abt 6 years now.

Now I get what all the fuss is about, so there is no more free sms? Yeparipa, I don joli o. Well, I don't use that much, besides, I do pay on MTN for SMS anyways.
