The husband of a Benue State-based Chief Magistrate, Pastor Steve Onaopepo Toluwase, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court, Ejigbo, for alleged internet fraud.

The 50-year old pastor of an undisclosed church, was charged with his accomplice, Anene Tracy, 36, with a three-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.

P.M.News gathered that the pastor was alleged to have defrauded at least 100 people in the guise of doing an on line network marketing.

The accused was alleged to have placed an advert on the internet encouraging readers to pay various sums of money into his account.

He was alleged to have floated three fraudulent financial plans known as Ijoya Power Networking Plan, otherwise known as bail out, get rich and travel.

He claimed that the readers’ money would eventually yield huge returns at maturity.

Before the victims realised that they had been conned, they had lost N100 million to the pastor.

The victims informed the police who arrested and charged him to court.

The offence the accused committed was said to be contrary to section 516, 419 and 390 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2004.

Toluwase pleaded not guilty to the charge. The magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Ajibade, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till 11 November, 2009.

Outside the court, the pastor allegedly said he will soon be vindicated, since the matter was in court.

He confirmed the incident, but concluded that the victims were ignorant before embarking on the networking.
