Illegal stay in USA is not a good idea if you want to earn a green card in the future. If you are found to have been there illegally, even if you are married to a citizen, they can still deny you Green card and make you return to Lagos and wait years before you are elligible to apply again. Being there illegally will only prolong denial of your chances to gain residency or any type of visa in the future. But millions of foriegners are in USA illegally every day, working and making money in lieu of the day they could be deported. Many are never deported, but they always make money and many save up enough to start a good life if they get deported. Even a visitor who stays 6 months in USA and constantly works small jobs for those six months while living as simple as possible, can return to Naija with N1million or more. All kinds of things are possible in USA but one thing is it is very difficult to get legal papers/green card during an illegal stay there. 12 Likes |

Chemistry knowledge in high demand in USA. Please take the chance and get a Msc when you get to USA. USA is not like Nigeria. They value knowledge, if you are even above average in your Msc program a company most likely will sponsor you for H1B visa since graduates with chemistry backgrounds are in high demand. All the best. Take the chance. Evil selfish people have been ruling Nigeria at all levels for 30 plus years. 1 Like |

listen to the master. Move to America get a job and don't overstay. you Can get $10 per hour job in some states and maybe below and above in some other states. Talking about menial job here. America is not Europe at least for now no one will trouble you except you get your self into trouble. Mind you things might change after the November election. you can save $5000 for five months (change it to naira you good). Don't let any body deceive you.America is better for you since you have relatives there and you might be lucky to fall in love with a Nigerian american l mean genuine love. those discouraging u are either children of politicians or have good jobs in Nigeria. Another group that will discourage you are some of our spoilt daddy's kids who think they are suffering in America without knowing what it means to search for jobs in Lagos. 10 Likes |

Crispels: Beautiful. I was in your shoe exactly 6 years ago. First of all. if you are in penultimate or finals, then forget about enhancing your cgpa. Focus on your politics, you need to realize your full leadership potential. You have won elections, you still have supporters and loyalists, so its gonna be easier for you in your next election/appointment. Another option is don't contest, just seek high-ranking appointment within the union. In conclusion, combine both. Student unionism when done properly give you even more opportunity to do those things you talked about (Toastmasters, JCI, UN delegate thing etc). Your political sagacity and comradic charisma will help you anywhere you go, trust me. Thank you. |

Have you considered applying for jobs outside of Nigeria? People with your knowledge are in high demands in countries like the UAE. Living illegally in the US isn't a bed of roses as depicted by many. Think out of the box; apply for jobs outside of Nigeria-- NZ, Australia, UAE, Qatar and so on. Improve on your skills. It's not always about 2.1 3 Likes |

I would advise you travel to the US but legally only and never overstay your visa no matter what. Your Plan A is fine ... on paper... but do have a Plan B ...and Plan C because most likely things would not go according to plan. Regardless of what your relative mouth say. ..and how close you were in Naija... don't ever expect the same in the US.... every man for himself...it is a rat race. If you think getting a job is hard now... get there and you would find out how hard it is with papers... and even harder without. Worst..if you have no skills.... in your situation you may as well forget about that certificate...it would be almost useless. You work.....you would have to... ..have to pay for your stay or hit the streets. Hit the streets... you would need money for everything..even clothing if the weather is not stable...cash is a must. Now you can either become beggar... depends on where you are...it can lead to you being arrested.. and deported... you can become a robber.... maybe get involved in drugs... or if you can get by.. just become trapped in the US.. homeless like soooo many others wishing you can come back home. If you are business minded... you would see buying and selling g business opportunities that can make you millions in Naija... you wouldn't even think about overstaying. Not discouraging you. .. but giving you food for thought... while going for the roses you should plan to get past the thorns. While here, I'll advise you stop focusing on jobs that suit your qualifications only....target the places that may need you... apply for any position.. gateman.... gardener...car washer...whatever...get your foot in the door... once in... you have the inside track of any vacancy that may arise. 6 Likes |

I don't usually comment on social media but l want like to chip in some advice. I have lived in the United States for 10yrs now and currently like in Texas. Life is nit as easy as people may think. It's always good to get advice from people that live where you plan to emigrate. There is no guarantee in life whether you have 2.1 or 1.1 in any course. I know of a friend that had 1.1 in Petroleum Engineering that was recently laid off from work few months ago and it is not easy getting another job. Some even have masters and Ph.D. in Geoscience but no work. It's all about the grace of God. Please do not even think of living in another country illegally. Don't be fooled by people who paint all kind of rosy stories about America. Life is not as easy as one might think. Even some of your friends and family members there will paint a rosy picture to you just to make them look good or respected. They visit Nigeria and spend money lavishly that some do borrow from banks or using their credit cards all to create a false impression that they are living a good life outside Nigeria. Please don't be fooled by it. Life is much easier in Nigeria even when you don't have a job. You have friends and family members that keeps you going each day despite the difficulties you go through. Most of the time, you have nobody abroad to help you in times of need. Some live paycheck to paycheck and can't survive one week without a paycheck coming. You pay bills and taxes here unlike in Nigeria where it is not that much. Some people might reason while I haven't relocate back home if life in Nigeria is better. I am working on that and looking for a job that will take care of my family and I will make the move immediately. I live in Nigeria for almost 30yrs and have live in the U.S for 10yrs now as a citizen. The thing that is keeping most people here are the availability of basics things like electricity, good roads (in some cases), relative security but made worst with open gun carry laws in Texas. Just keep praying to God and doing anything legal to support yourself until things improve in the future. 11 Likes 1 Share |

purpleblood:your assumption is flawed. People buy 2 1 in Nigeria. That's not to say he bought his anyways. Remember, the Pakistani, Indians are competing for the same juicy jobs with better degrees. Like someone said, it's by the grace of God whether in naija or in America. The Op should look inwards. If you do not have a ready made job for him in America, why advice him to migrate illegally? 1 Like |

Amaski: How's the bold possible. Did you acquire the citizenship same day you entered the US? You have some point but suggesting life in Nigeria is better than the US or anywhere in the West is risible. You pay bills, lives on paycheck and have family and friends blablabla is a joke. Pal, only lazy asses without a promising profession or skills depends on state benefits or have problem with footing their bills and lives on credit. When you have a decent job, you don't have problem with bills. You may not save much but can take care of your personal bills. And I'm sure you were having a laugh by inferring Naija is better coz family and friends can support you in dire times of needs. My question to you is, why would anyone decide to live a life depending on others or jettison an option of an independent living over that of a liability on others? 10 Likes 1 Share |

OP, let me chip in my own advice. That you were called for interviews means there is already something interesting about you in your CV. What you are yet to figure out is why you don't move on to the next level in your interviews - There is a weakness there. You may be doing yourself well if you can look inwards and see where you missing it. Perhaps download resources and videos on interviews. If you want to leave country, good for you but please make sure it's through a legal means. Infact, travelling out would further boost your profile and improve your chances of getting jobs in other countries including Nigeria if you can do something extra ordinary over there i.e the international experience. Green card is not one day's thing. All the best, do not do anything that will get you into trouble. 1 Like |

Please patiently acquire a professional course and stay back, you can get a dignifying job later on, I believe things will be fine soon. Left to my canal mind, I would say go to USA, but jobs don't come handy as such, you will have to search for it, and mostly job available for immigrants are not the white collar but security guard at odd hours, waste collection, and others non fantastic jobs. Please stay back, I believe your 2.1 & professional course will push you here. 1 Like 1 Share |
