The renewed onslaught by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) on oil facilities assumed a new dimension on Thursday when some Niger Delta militants berated the Federal Government for allegedly engaging in “unprovoked” killings of Biafra supporters using security operatives.

The militants observed that the killings revealed that it might be targeting the “South-South and South-East for extinction.” It would be recalled that the pro-Biafra activists and security personnel had clashed on May 30, which was exactly 49 years, after the declaration of an independent Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1967.

The clash left many activists dead and many others arrested and wounded. The warning by the militants came on a day Biafrans in Austria under the auspices of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) decried the continuous detention of its leader and Director of Biafra Radio, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafran activists, by the Federal Government.

However, the militants in a statement issued online, expressed their sympathy for Biafra, adding that they are aware of how members of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the IPOB and the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) were killed without provocation.

The statement signed by the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Democratic Front (NDPDF), Precious Iyoyo (aka General Playboy), and his counterpart of the Concerned Militant Leaders (CML), General Ben, said it was depressing to observe the level of tactlessness displayed against the people. Ben specifically said the Federal Government had simply declared war against innocent Nigerians through the action of security operatives.

He said: “It is now war between the militants and security men. Since innocent and helpless citizens, especially from South- South and South-East, have been marked for extinction, we will defend our people.”

The militants also vowed to go after security operatives in an unprecedented manner, adding that the operation will be carried out both on the sea and on land.

The militants also threatened to avenge “unprovoked” killings of Biafra supporters by security operatives. On its ultimatum to the Federal Government to release the corpses of 10 pro-Biafra agitators, which expired yesterday, the militants warned that their decision to avenge the attack on the protesters was reached after an emergency meeting organised by some leaders of various militant groups in the oil-rich region.

The militants said. “If Federal Government fails to release them (corpses) by yesterday, June 3, 2016, they will hear from us from Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Edo States.”

In another development, the Biafrans in Austria said the plan to use masked witnesses against the leader of IPOB is a charade that has a pre-determined result of “finding him (Kanu) guilty and jailing him”.

Speaking to an online news portal, Global Reporters, after the “commemoration of the 49th anniversary of Biafra”, the zonal coordinator of IPOB in Vienna, Austria, Mr. Michael Chi-jioke Umeh, said:
“The continuous detention of our Director, Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafran leaders, held in the Nigerian dungeon, including peaceful Biafran protesters arrested on the streets in Nigeria, is the highest level of human rights violation.”

He queried why nonviolent Biafran protesters should be met with brutal force and shot with live ammunition by the Nigerian security agents, declaring that Nigeria/Biafra marriage is a British fraudulent idea that had expired.

Umeh said: “What have we done wrong? Our protests are always very peaceful. We carry no gun, no knife and no stone. Why kill us? Why shoot at us? “Nigeria was a fraud from the British people for their own selfish interest.

They knew from genesis that the Biafrans and the northerners were never the same people, but because of their greed they never cared what would happen to us and with the power of gun and religion they forced our ancestors into marriage.

“But that forced contract had a 100-year expiration date inserted into it. Now, the 100 years have come and gone, and as it was in the beginning so it is still till today. It did not work, it is not working and it would never work, so free Biafrans because we want to go.

“It is our legitimate right to seek for self-determination for God’s sake. “I want to remind our people to be wise because we are not cowards as we remember our fallen heroes of over 4,5 million people killed in the Biafra war.

Interestingly, in accordance with this, Biafrans in Vienna, Austria, met at “Minoritenplatz (U3 Herrengasse) by 12p.m. before moving to Nigerian and British Embassies.”

“We want to tell the world that we are living and that Buhari cannot be supporting the freedom of other people in other countries, but continue to arm his murderous security agents to be killing Biafrans. It is hypocrisy.
We also want to be free,” Umeh said.

Saturday Telegraph gathered that following the emergence of a new group which called itself the New Delta Suicide Squad (NDSS), more militia groups are likely to emerge very soon.

Saturday Telegraph checks from dependable sources revealed that more groups are likely to emerge soon in the wake of the attacks, which had impacted on the crude oil production level of the nation.

“The exploitation of this region by scavengers, economic pirates, and cowboys must come to an end. Unlike the NDA which concentrates its attacks on pipelines and facilities of major oil firms, the new group (NDSS) has threatened to destroy the equipment of private oil firms’ installations in the region. This is because more militia groups in the coming weeks would be springing up and you know what this portends,” the source explained.

It would be recalled that a meeting with representatives of top militants in the region, reportedly organised last week by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on how to contain the security problems in the Niger Delta, ended in a deadlock.

It was gathered that one camp had reportedly proposed the idea of using a former South-South governor to reach out to the militants, but shelved the idea when it was realised that the former governor did not have the required clout and contacts among the militants.
