NYSC was instituted by an Act of the National Assembly. Even Buhari has no powee to abolish it. For it to be abolished, a bill will have to be sent to the National Assembly and it will pass through the first and second reading before it is finally adopted.

We all know how long this process will take.

The Federal government has scrapped the
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a bid to
cut down spending.


This was reached after today's Federal Executive
Council Meeting. It will be recalled that the
Federal Government had scrapped Post UTME to
enable JAMB carry out its statutory responsibility
of conducting admissions into the nation's
Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of
Education.


Meanwhile, all youth corps members currently
serving now will be allowed to round off their
service year with full financial benefits.

If this is true, the North will suffer. In many parts of the North, particularly the rural areas outside the state capitals, the schools simply don't have any teachers and they depend heavily on Corpers as a reliable source of qualified teaching staff. I personally witnessed this in Nassarawa and Niger States.
