I thank the lord almighty that I was able to survive mine in the year 2007-2008 and mine was more severe than this picture. I spent 3months in the hospital 2months was without eating anything and the other 1month was eating through the nose. It was a bad experience and no one should pray for such painful sickness. Mine was fansida the popular malaria drugs not that the drug has expired or smthing but they contain sulphur and whoever reacts with sulphur should avoid them completely. It could happen to anybody irrespective of ur over careful. May her soul rest in peace. 2 Likes |

it is a rear adverse effect. how do you think drugs work? it works on the little difference between you and the pathogen at some dosage. the question now is what if the pathogen and you hv the same biochemical make up or you hv the biochemical make up of the pathogen it was originally prepared for? |

Take special care with Septrin Potentially life-threatening skin rashes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis) have been reported with the use of Septrin appearing initially as reddish target-like spots or circular patches often with central blisters on the trunk. Additional signs to look for include ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals and conjunctivitis (red and swollen eyes). These potentially life-threatening skin rashes are often accompanied by flu-like symptoms. The rash may progress to widespread blistering or peeling of the skin. The highest risk for occurrence of serious skin reactions is within the first weeks of treatment. If you have developed Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis with the use of Septrin you must not be re-started on Septrin at any time. If you develop a rash or these skin symptoms, stop taking Septrin, seek urgent advice from a doctor and tell him that you are taking this medicine. Before you take Septrin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if: you have severe allergies or asthma you have been told that you have a rare blood problem called porphyria, which can affect your skin or nervous system you don’t have enough folic acid (a vitamin) in your body – which can make your skin pale and make you feel tired, weak and breathless. This is known as anaemia you have ever had jaundice which can cause yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes you have a problem with your metabolism called phenylketonuria and are not on a special diet to help your condition you are elderly you are underweight or malnourished you have been told by your doctor that you have a lot of potassium in your blood. you have been told by your doctor that you have an abnormally low level of sodium in your blood. you have been told by your doctor that you have any serious disorders of the blood and blood forming tissues (haematological disorders) E.g. low blood cell counts. If you are not sure if any of the above apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Septrin. |

I am not blaming the boy for prescribing septrim to d deceased. Steven Johnson's Syndrome is a very rare side effect of septrim, it happens in lyk 1 outta 100 patients. D deceased in question didn't know if shez allergic to sulfur or even septrim, nd m sure even if d prescriber asked if d girl was allergic to septrim she would hv said I don't No. Givin septrim is not a bad idea atall... Mind you there are varieties of drugs which also causes steven johnson's syndrome too and people take them everyday without the side effect, cause d syndrome is a very rare adverse effect. Be that as it may, RIP to the dead. |

I'm also allergic to septrin... Whenever i feel malaria, i took paracetamol, chloroquin and septrin. After some minute i felt some itches on 1side of my lower lips... Later it turn to blisters and then burnt black, after a week, i can then peel it off. It happened for like 4times, I dont know its the septrin untill one day i use only the septrin 2tablets... And the reaction started again, since then around 2010 i dont use it again... |
14 year old Amina Ibrahim who suffered severe burns after allegedly taking popular antibiotics, Septin, has died. Amina had gone to a chemist to buy medications when she was feeling ill and when she got there, she met the 19 year old son of the pharmacist who prescribed the antibiotics for her. She took the drug and immediately started reacting to it. Within an hour, she suffered sever burns on her face and neck. She was later diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a “rare, serious disorder of skin and mucous membranes that is usually caused from reaction to a medication or an infection. Her condition degenerated into the Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). She died in the morning of June 2nd. So sad. Amina died at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano State. The pharmacist has left his son in charge countless times before this incident. How many more are still doing this? Who are the regulatory agencies? Just like some parents leave their under aged children in their bars and stores to sell alcohol and cigarettes. Nigeria. |

chrystalC: Please may I ask the qualification of this 19year old boy? HE WAS GIVING A PRESCRIPTION. He has probably prescribed septrin to 100s before now. Unless you say that if the girl had gone to a clinic or hospital she may have still lost her life. |

ikbnice: The medication is not fake oo.. One of the very rare side effects of septrin is Steven-Johnsons syndrome. that is why before you take any medication you should always request for the patient information leaflet. it has all the side effects you need to look out for in it. and don't let your children take medication that is meant for adults. always check what your children are taking, their body is different from our body. |
