baslone: I was there last in 2013, visited two schools there (don't know if they still exist). One was built over a dumpsite the other we paddled to get to it where most of the kids were of BĂ©ninoise origin. Life is really rough there! |

And this is why the Lagos State Government refused to grant planning permission for the construction of the school and planned to demolish it. Where are the people that were condemning the government then? |

Re: Floating School, Makoko, Lagos, Collapses After Heavy & Torrential Rainfall by shumuel(m): 4:51pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
mccoy47: jrusky: You guys shouldn't speak like that, that structure was the initiative of an architect, a Nigerian like you and I, who parted ways with is hard earned $6,000 to build that community a school so that the children there could have some level of education for free because you FG, SG & LG, prefare to loot and embezle rather than to utilise public funds to good use. Its painful when Nigerians act like this, quick to pointing fingers to their own, and we would start asking why nothing works in this counrty, why nobody wants to help. Someone did now, and the stupid witches of that community had to distroy the only oppotunity for the kids to have an education, sigh... Black man, Black hearts, Black mentalities. No wonder everyone is running out of the country, including your President PMB . I give up! You that you are talking, who you don epp ? |

Gmajor:this school and it's engineer was featured on CNN... the dude is even a judge on an international design/ architectural Expo sef...Dayuum, this is bad PR for him really... in future the architectural integrity of his designs will be questioned... |

shumuel:yeah,it was personal funding from him |
Re: Floating School, Makoko, Lagos, Collapses After Heavy & Torrential Rainfall by shumuel(m): 5:11pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
TheFirstLady: The funding is one part, the guy gave out is time, skills and even made it free education for the kids, mehn... And they had to be this wicked,, hmm! How would anyone else be encourage to help or do something of such in future,, the painful part is; if there were casualities am sure the parents of the kids might even sue him or say he did it for money rituals and had used their kids, Nigerian stupi.d mentality its so sad. |
Re: Floating School, Makoko, Lagos, Collapses After Heavy & Torrential Rainfall by shumuel(m): 5:15pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
TheFirstLady: So sad, and when that happens, the guy would begin to blame and curse himself for trying to do what is right. This is the main reason why nothing is working in this country and why nobody is acting nor helpping. |

Re: Floating School, Makoko, Lagos, Collapses After Heavy & Torrential Rainfall by since1914(m): 5:18pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
TheFirstLady: The collapse does not necessarily translate to bad PR for him or his work, rather it will offer him and his team an opportunity to go back to the drawing board and do something better. The structure even though functional, was actually an experimental design. The idea was to learn from this and further iterate the concept and have them mass produced eventually. A better-designed replica of this building is currently being exhibited at this year's Venice Architecture Bienniale in Venice, as Nigeria's first ever entry at the event. The terrain of coastal communities in Nigeria has created a permanent need for this kind of Architecture, hence I will be disappointed, if the Architect and his team fail to maximise the opportunity the current publicity offers them. |
Re: Floating School, Makoko, Lagos, Collapses After Heavy & Torrential Rainfall by shumuel(m): 5:35pm On Jun 08, 2016 |
naptu2: Honestly bro, i couldn't believe my eye, seeing that you ''Naptu2'' would speak like this,, why should the government refuse to grant him the nessesary planning permission he need, should they be even motivated and support him by futher funding his project, am sure the reason why the school capsize is because its not big enough to withstand the strong wind, with a bigger structure such wouldn't had happen, but no, our government to have brains to think, so the best ideas is to always shut everything down so they can have more money to loot, and the most painful and saddest part of this case is Nigerians who had never made any impact nor are they ready to make any impact in their society or help any community are the ones typing and saying shyts, its very painful. If you ask me i don't and wont blame the guy rather i would throw my blames on the state government who didn't support the guy by emulating him and further funding the flooting school and making it bigger, the ingenuity behind the make-up of the school is a superb initiative, if ernets could bring wealth not only to individuals but to the government also. |
