horllamy:I made small ridges first(necessary so you can easily clear growing weeds without touching the plant), then inserted the seedlings(2 to 3 in a hole) into the ridges with a depth of about 2-3cm and spacing of about 30-45cm(its important to give them space so they don't get overcrowded when spreading out). The major post planting operations are weeding and pest control(melons do not require much water hence no need for watering) Its biannual, you can plant early in the year with the first heavy rain or towards the end of the year with lesser rainfall before winter |

DebbieSean:wow! your farm must be quite big, did you study any agricultural related course? I planted some vegetables earlier this year too but they were all destroyed my some worms which invaded the place so I uprooted everything and made a bed for the vegetables which are now growing fine. 1 Like |

tibaonnet:well done bro. I noticed that too but I do not agree with you on the opinion that watermelon requires much water. Mine were doing really well and on course for greatness before it started raining everyday (sometimes twice a day), the little ones died while the smaller ones were stuck to their various sizes till harvest(harvested 4 already this week) |

Hello NairaLanders, In this era of "Change" and Economic Recession, where Banks and corporate organizations are continuosly downsizing while MORE graduates are still graduating in hope that they secure a well-paid job. If you are still searching to be employed, you are at big risk, its a 20% chance! Also, if you are proud and satisfied by your current salary, you are a big joker (apologies for the statement) because the over 3000 Banks staff laid off did not get replacement. But I will advise that you seek to be SELF EMPLOYED and PART-TIME employed by others so the coming recession predicted will not meet you in shock- Oh, I had known... If you listen to the News, Fed Govt is in full support of AGRICULTURE afterall, we all started from their and na their we go end up when Petrol don diminish value finish. *Gbam!* You can still end this year better than you started. Adet5:water melon is a very technical crop and most lucrative, bear in mind that u can't just plant any kind of seeds, that's what the watermelon gurus would not tell u, u can try farming water melon for ages and u would never make a success. just a tip of the ice berg, there are seeds for the rainy season and there are seeds for dry season. u don't plant the right seeds at the wrong season. secondly, in contemporary times u can not do water melon farming without chemical application. I prepared an e-book that comprise all u need for a succesful water melon farming... if u are interested u can whatsapp me at 08068018201... I am a water melon and cucumber farmer. u can trust my info... its first class info. |

"If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. (But) If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative" With a few words, this quote says almost all that need to be said about the benefits of cooperation and tacitly surmises that where competition ends, cooperation begins. For the Watermelon Cucumber Stakeholders Association of Nigeria, the reality that working together brings more success both individually and collectively have instructed the forming of the Association. The Association meets at CMD, Magodo, Lagos on Saturday 19th August 2017 from 9am. Please be there and come with your friends. Admission is free to members but N2k to non members. We will discuss about where we are coming from; where we are, detailing our milestone and where we are going. We will also discuss about our working together in clusters, the tour to Shanghai Farm, Porto Novo, and many more. Our Special Guest Speaker will put us through the secret success in Vegetables Farming such as in Ugu, melons, cucumber, Tomato, shoko, okro etc, including the hydroponics method of farming. We are also expecting Keynote Addresses by top officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Agric and if we are lucky, from the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority. What are you waiting for? You just have to be there♀♀ |

I found an agricultural cooperative called Releaf. What the Releaf cooperative does is that it connects good agribusinesses to genuine and trustworthy business partners (suppliers, buyers, etc). I recommend anyone into agric should join. It's a quick one and it is free if you use this link here: www.releaf.ng -- Read and learn more here: www.bellanaija.com/2017/08/uzoma-ayogu-ikenna-nzewi-isaiah-udotong-releaf-ng-share-plans-transform-agribusiness-africa-bn/amp/
