Ariani: The earlier you realize that I can't claim who I am not just because I want to fit into your stereotype of how a Yoruba or a SS person should speak, the better for you. I am from Edo State and if you don't know, know it today that an Edo man's opinion on issues is least influenced by tribal sentiments. I am a proud Edo person because Edo kingdom pre-existed Nigeria and was already being referenced all over the world before Nigeria was ever dreamt of. Edo historic artworks remain the most sophisticated in pre-colonial Africa. A typical Edo person believes first in his state before believing in Nigeria if he does at all. But I must be very blunt with you that we have an unquenchable aversion to Igbos because we continue to see Ojukwu's invasion of Benin as an act of foreign aggression and territorial violation. Moreover why should I defend igbos unduly when I know they invaded my hometown and committed havoc against my people in 1967? I know my aversion for your heros Zik and Ironsi is what makes you believe I am Yoruba, and I have kept on asking you why you think all SS (particularly Edos) should be so senseless as not to realize that Zik's advocacy of unitary system disguised as one Nigeria sloganeering ended up inspiring Ironsi into dismantling federalism which ended up opening up the Southern minorities, of which I am, to exploitation, oppression, etc by the big three (WAZOBIA). If fact the day you'll pay a long visit to Benin and in fact any other Edo/Delta town apart from probably the Anioma ones you will discard this your perception that it takes only a Yoruba person to hate Zik and Ironsi. Why should I love Zik and Ironsi who caused my economic and political enslavement as a minority to the WAZOBIA tribes just because I want to prove I am not Yoruba? Awolowo's actions during the war might have really hurt you psychologically and he could be blamed for even intervening in the war rather than allow it run its natural course as it was essentially a war between those who even jailed him, but that does not alter the truth that his position as a federalist would have paid me better if Zik and his lieutenants had listened to him at the constitution drafting stage. After all have we not all now seen from experimentation with unitary system for the past 50 years that Unitary system is too grave an evil for any truly educated and sincere person to even contemplate let alone openly advocate for a multi-ethnic democracy like Nigeria? The mere fact that even you now demand true federalism means that posterity has passed a damning verdict on Zik and Ironsi. As an Edo person I eulogize Enahoro not necessarily because he is my kinsman but because he made honourable and realistic proposals like states created along tribal compatibility lines to forestall clashes of culture and its attendant bloodshed as (if he saw today's Nigeria ahead), and also proposed the secession clause to instill in all our future leaders the fear of the consequences of misgovernance - both of which were roundly rejected by that myopic Zik who argued that secession clause was inimical to national unity and that federalism would promote tribalism over nationalism due to his very naive assumption that a country of over 400 strange bed fellow and mutually antagonizing tribes would be so peacefully and successfully governed by unitary system therefore making secession clause unnecessary. The presence of secession clause in that independence constitution would have restrained Balewa and Ahmadu Bello from misruling so much as to warrant Awolowo's civilian Coup and later Nzeogwu's military coup which each of Awo and Nzeogwu found as the only available weapon of defence against Balewa's misrule and assault on the South since the more effective , legal and non-violent option (i.e. secession clause) had been forestalled by Zik and his NCNC. If there were secession clause do you think Awo or Nzeogwu would have resorted to coups, or that even Ojukwu himself would have used the approach he used in seeking Biafra which ended up failing for that matter? That is the thrust of my contention against Zik, and the endowment I need to analyse the issue the way I have always done is simple education and minimum intelligence, and not being a Yoruba or Hausa. Some very honest Igbo guys have accepted that Zik's fantasy with one Nigeria landed the South in this mess. I met two of such Igbo guys on my recent thread on Saro Wiwa and I was humbled by their honesty and tribal detachment. in fact one particular one of them was very consumate and expository in his acknowledgement that Zik ruined our future as Southerners. I will go back to that post and mention your name so that you can read him up to see if he too is Yoruba. Well, if the mods are banning you, I think it might have more to do with your sometimes abusive choice of words like you always use on me than your assumption of puncturing anyone's "propaganda". What you do when you see an arguement is to try attacking with superior facts and logic rather than resort to alleging that the person must be Yoruba as if that will change the fact that his arguement is superior to yours. I don't try to read people's tribes from their opinions because I find it childish and as an escape route from the onslaught of his superior arguement. 2 Likes |

SlayerSupreme: Don't mind the Shameless boy. Imagine him saying that we are spoiling the unity that they have been struggling to create among Ikwerre and Igbo. What nonsense unity is that one biko? They are not our brothers and they will not be. They are just fellow Nigerians and that's the much we can relate with them. I wonder how a sane igbo man will waste his time trying to convice a useless Ikwerre tribe that they are brothers and even putting in extra effort to do that. What a shame. . I can accept Ndoki, Etche, Egbema in Rivers state as my brothers but not Ikwerre. No way. 1 Like |

As an American with an American and Nigerian parents, I am often amused when I listen to my African brothers especially Nigerians argue Ad Nauseam about how racist America is and how racism would be its downfall. As an African American male, I agree that there is racism in America- a country with people of different races, colors and creed. I get it! But when juxtaposed with Nigeria- a country with people of the same race and color albeit different tribes and creed, the degree of tribalism and hatred amongst the people is beyond comprehension. As an outsider looking in, there seems to be deep rooted anger, hatred and mistrust amongst the tribes. A person from the north (Hausa) despises and distrusts another from the southwest (Yoruba), southeast (Ibo) or south-south (Ijaw) and vice-versa. Not only are national issues debated and drawn along tribal lines but religious as well. The predominantly Muslim north and the Christian south don't see eye to eye on pretty much anything. Even here in America, people of these different tribes speak ill of, loathe each other and fight (not literally) in a way that makes one wonder whether they are actually of the same nationality. If I am correct, the Good Book says in Matthew 7:15, "Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye;and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." So my brothers and sisters from the motherland, before you sit in judgment of America about its racism, I suggest you take a very good look in the mirror and then ask your self one simple question: (1). How do I treat my fellow country man/woman who has more in common with me- despite being of different tribe and creed- than you have with a white person? If your answer is ambiguous, then you are in no position to complain and pass judgment on America. 3 Likes |

@deadlytruth, i wouldnt agree less with your post. Igbos have now formed a habit of trying to pin Yoruba on anyone who goes contrary to their opinion and stand on NL. They now almost use it as a form of intimidation and subversion process when their arguments cannot be substantiated. Nigeria is a country of proud ethnicities, and that pride makes it difficult for A to claim B. But if anything, the Igbos are the likeliest to create monikers for the single purpose of faking their identity. It is nothing new amongst fellow 9igerians that the Igbos are a people notorious for organised cheating and also a people with acute insecurity complex. I find it disturbing albeit amusing that Igbos will attack the culture, character and values of Ikwerres simply because Ikwerre refused to be called Igbos and as such shuld be pelted with all manner of rubbish. Imagine the Igbo tribe notorious for drug pushing, armed robbery, baby factorism, prostitution, fake drugs production, fake spare parts production, rituals,419 and all manner of societal ills trying to paint someone else when they are literally soaked in deep shit. Una get luck say i miss this thread, i for dey upload thread upon thread. 2 Likes 1 Share |

honourhim: Is Bini even in SS? Edo is geographically a SW state or at the very least, a north central state, considering it's Islamicized northern senatorial zone. It was only put in SS because they didn't really fit into anywhere. Even though they are in SW geographically, they were not Yorubas and had refused to accept their Iinferiority before Yorubas, seeing as they are being ruled by Obas of Ile ife descent. They wouldn't have fitted into the North either, as they are not "North enough", they were reluctantly put in SS. Edo is the only SS state with no riverine culture. And with a significant Islam stain. 1 Like |

If you really feel I should keep off then you should have blamed your brother Ariani for ever mentioning my name here as that was what brought me in. Well, under normal circumstances I don't even comment on posts concerning Igbos as a tribe because I know it is almost impossible for them not to use Yoruba blackmail when they meet superior arguements. However I was forced to come into this because your brother Ariani mentioned me specifically. Igbos have from time immemorial hated Edos for no justifiable reason. Our own aversion for Igbos started in 1967 for the obvious reason of the Midwest invasion which remains justifiable. But same can't be said of Igbos' hatred for us. It is jut out of envy. Simple! I have no business with Igbos at all but unfortunately they litter Benin and most Edo towns. I don't know anyone in my hometown living in Igbo land. We know who needs who more. 1 Like |
