very correct sir. there are so many challenges regarding oil transportation and logistics. until date, there has been no solid public transport model for dealers around the country. the railway is not usually reliable although its the cheapest. its stories upon stories and clients dont like disappointments. even the usual transport companies will quote maximum limits they can carry and all that stories for you. now if you decide to use your personal vehicle, you will need to secure goods to bring back else you will drive back empty.

the solution is for people to fill this vacuum, identify major dealers around, strike transportation deals with them and move their goods round the country for them. i bet you will make your cool cash. but ofcourse you must also be able to scout for goods to take back to your destination once you offload the goods. the frequent destination with high volume are lagos, kaduna, kano and ph. the deal is identifying goods you can take back first of all and then the rest is history.
atleast nairaland alone has lots of dealers
on the issue of tankers, most buyers specify their delivery containers except companies. companies buying in bulk go for the tankers which is easier and safer buh middlemen wants to see and count their goods....lol. so they prefer kegs. either ways, satisfying your client should be your topmost priority. GOD BLESS OUR HUSSLES.

Thanks everyone for the wishes. I've been pretty busy with some deals and that has kept me offline.Among those trips I had some ugly experience I will need to share.
At Kano, after a Lil chat with the MD who invited me, he took me round and to my greatest surprise he showed me Malaysians palm oil been sold at #11800 and Malaysian ororo sold at same price and less. I was dumbfounded cos this is almost the cost of producing ours indigenously.
All along the journey I kept wandering, what is the government doing to curb this substandard goods infiltrating our borders, how do we strive or survive in a market where the competitors price just equals the cost of local productions.
as illusive as the answer looks, no one could truly understand the pains of an entrepreneur. it's really not easy when there's no platform for us to showcase and market our resources. you can't blame the masses, of course everyone prefers a cheaper product. The idea of customs policing our borders and ensuring no foreign substandard products infiltrates our nation is just a media thing.
we do have a long way to go!!! Funny enough the quality of those products were nothing to write home about, bad, dirty, and extremely odoriferous lol.... but with the harsh economic situation, an average Nigerian doesn't care bout qualities, he's just after feeding.
the Malaysian oil is just everywhere now in the north and is moving towards the west. This is just the reason the price isn't going up as expected, our efforts are sarbotaged by our very leaders and governments.
until something is done to check this substandard products infiltrating our boarders, we the indigenous entrepreneurs will still be at their mercies . God help us all and bless our hurssles

Malaysian palm oil substandard?

Is the cost of production really 11k?

lols, I love intellectual arguments like this sir, although say I no go school.
well let me start by asking you sir:how many bunches of palm fruits yields 25litres of palm oil. how much fuel do you need to power your productions per batch. let's not even include the cost of labourers who cut the bunches, select fruits, boil or the firewood, water and other logistics first. you will realise how much it cost to produce first grade palm oil.
Now you choose who to believe, us or the government, but lemme ask you? how much is a litre of fuel and diesel over your place.
Aside from those factors, it cost at least #800 to transport oil to Lagos or north per keg... ....all this while I've not included the cost of the empty kegs too. once you are done with all this logistics, you will realise the truth sir.
No matter which angle you come from, you will realise that the govt isn't helping matters, that's the bitter truth.
well let me call on a few dealers to and the house to make contributions to this issues:
who is to blame, the producers, dealers, retailers, abi governments.

Thanks for the mention sire.

I stopped criticizing palm oil sellers on the price issue when I sat down to cost how much is needed to produce a keg of oil. The energy exerted is even a topic on it's own.

The only solution would have been having the same price in all the states but so many obvious factors made this impossible.

It is well jare. The only solution is to maintain the standard by producing good oil. Akuenhe!

shikena.... ....if we must keep maintaining quality, then it's actually impossible to produce at the same price with Malaysians except the cost of so many utilities like fuels, power, rubber, transport, is reviewed by our govt.
there's just no magic that can be done

Well personally, I don't take politicians serious, most times they are always far from the truth.

It's greed for a hardworking farmer/producer to increase the price of his products to make little profit but not greed for politicians to embezzle FG fund?
Take them serious at your own peril.

On a more serious note, what is the way forward to this intruders trying to infiltrate our system with substandard Palmoil?

Is it advisable to sell off the palmoil now or is there any plans being structured to annul their excesses

After counting my losses, I decided to go offline with palm oil technically: You don wake me up again.

Well First of all, there is no gain in palm oil production if you are to sell only the oil. It's after selling the palm kernel that you will see small gain.

Local palm fruit most times need 40+ bunches of palm fruit to full a keg in order to produce first grade oil.
If care is not taken with the local fruit, what you will achieve at the end will be palm kernel. Also people tend to love it's oil. Currently a bounce of local palm fruit is #300 to #400 here.

Agric palm fruit, some times 20+ bunches will produce a keg of oil. With little or no Palm kernel. Most people dislike the oil.
#we mix it with local fruit for it to be marketable#
A bunch of agric palm oil is #500 to #600 now.

Imagine scumbing the entire bush just to harvest 20 bunches which would have been 50 to 80 during February - April. You will pay labourers even higher order wise they leave those bunches that is far inside bush to rot.
The sad thing is palm fruit has high quality of water now to oil, because of this every day rain.

I don't think all the millers are greedy, yesterday am told a lady was looking for who to buy her oil at #10,000 just to settle police.
Nobody will have oil and refused to sell it out in give away price to settle his problem......

Politicians like ranting just to feel better.
Production is not assumption, let him involve in oil milling to clear his doubt. He might even start up a plantation and mill as a minister. He will start harvesting after 5 years.

My brotherly, you said well.
Most farmers don't have any other hand work except palm oil milling.
After milling they must sell, unless they want to observe one month fasting.
Most times they will be begging buyers to buy the oil right in the mill.

Any miller that increase the price or want the price to increase before selling have extra source of income!

Do you have Malaysian palm fruit to start with, or the machines for better extraction of oil.
Malaysian palm fruit produces 50% more than our fruit.

In my locality in Kogi East, 18 bunches of agric produce 25 litres or 15 bunches produce 20 litres and there is still remnant for the person who takes it to the mill

Local palm fruits of 20 bunches produce 20 litres or 25 bunches for 25 litres. There is still some leftovers.

That's great! But it seems your seller allows you to select only the big bunches.
Do you boil the oil after milling?
Well rainfall duration and intensity is high down here, that can be achieved during less rainfall months.
High rainfall tends to increase water in oil which when boil turns to smelling "mbad adan" or 'afid adan'

What I know is that it's grounded at a local mill, and boiled back in the village. The oil is separated from the water then.
This is a local way of production where the modern oil mill is far from the village.
