When her case made frontpage on NL, I was the first to give a professional second opinion on how best the case should be handled. I proffered the baby be taken to India or Israel or bring in experts from any of those countries to carry out the open heart surgery. But one fellow, rebuffed me, saying we have the facility and the personnels to carry out an open heart surgery in our T.Hs.


When it concerns life, don't play trial and error with it. Nigeria is still coming up in healthcare delivery, we haven't gotten there yet. Flying out to get better treatment where there are well trained medics and state of the art medical facilities, shouldn't be perceived as non-patriotism. Go to where you know you'll get the best treatment, even if the best treatment is in hell!

@ drlawizle , when u gain the much needed experience in the practice, I'm sure you won't rebuffed those who are "fish to water" in the field, when it comes to first or second opinion.

It is unfortunate that the baby is gone but we shouldn't blame anyone. She suffered from ectopia cordis which is a congenital malformation where the heart becomes located outside the chest or thorax. Children born with this condition don't usually live beyond the age of 6. Although there have bn successful corrective surgeries the mortality rate is still very high

Flying the child out is not a guarantee that she will survive. The mortality rate of babies with this heart condition has always been high even in advanced countries. But with the media parade, I didn't expect Enugu from Madam Aisha.
