Monsanto invested in glyphosate herbicide and led the market with the trade name Roundup in 1974, after the ban of DDT.

But it was in the late 1990s that the use of Roundup is massified thanks to an ingenious Monsanto's marketing strategy. The strategy? Genetically modified seeds for food crops that could tolerate high doses of Roundup. With the introduction of these genetically modified seeds, farmers could easily control the pests in their crops of corn, soybeans, cotton, rapeseed, sugar beet, alfalfa; crops that were developed as well as the pests around them were eradicated by Roundup.
