Ortom Seeks Judicial Commission On Herdsmen’s Killing In Benue by Slimbideb: 4:13am On Jun 15, 2016
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has
called on the Federal Government to institute a judicial
commission of enquiry into the killings in Agatu and
other parts of the state by Fulani herdsmen. The Governor, who made the call yesterday in Makurdi when he hosted stakeholders from Apa and Agatu local government areas of the state, said the commission should, among other things, investigate and document the magnitude of the destruction in the affected communities.

He said the state was already compiling statistics on the
crisis with a view to forwarding same to the Federal
Government for necessary action.

While lamenting the magnitude of the destruction in
Agatu, Makurdi, Guma, Tarka, Buruku, Gwer and Gwer
West, Katsina-Ala, Kwande, Logo and other councils,
Ortom insisted that the devastation exceeded what Boko
Haram did in the North East.

According him: “It is obvious that the destruction and
devastation in the affected communities is far reaching
and as it is, we lack the capacity to rehabilitate the
affected areas.”

Earlier, leader of the delegation and Odejo K’ Apa, Chief
John Antenyi had commended the Governor for
appointing prominent indigenes of the area into the
state executive council.

He commended the governor's intervention which
brought peace to troubled Agatu communities and
provision of relief materials to the displaced persons.
Chief Antenyi also solicited the rehabilitation of
destroyed communities, establishment of a military base
in the area to forestall further invasion and provision of
a tertiary institution and other basic infrastructure in the area.
