A national daily reported today that Edo state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has commended the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) over its conduct of the recent election rerun in Akoko Edo local government area of the state. The governor gave the commendation when he visited the INEC Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu in Abuja at the weekend. Oshiomhole’s Action Congress (AC) candidate defeated his PDP opponent to win the rerun election into the Edo state House of Assembly.

Governor Oshiomhole said he was relieved by the “efficient conduct of the poll by INEC” as confirmed by independent observers. In his words; “not a single unit lacked materials nor were they delivered late as had been feared, for this INEC should be commended and encouraged”

Is the governor really talking about the same INEC that Nigerians know and love to hate so much? Maybe there is hope for 2011!
