i had that earlier. the solution is to be massaging your gum.
After brushing or while rinsing ur mouth,, use your finger to massage your gums.

you have Gingivitis, tou need to visit the dentist.

Already answered by other posters, you most likely have gingivitis. Visit a dental hygienist to help you clean your teeth/gums and then follow a strict regiment of flossing daily and problem solved, been there have the t-shirt

but if he is in naija, like someone else said, flossing is not even a part of teeth cleaning really over there.
some people dont even know what flossing is.

but i guess, he just better get some REALLY STRONG mouthwash if he doesnt have floss.
maybe that will do the trick.

LOL @ some responses. I bet you have gingivitis. If it is just the early stages then floss after every meal, brush at least twice a day and use an antiseptic mouthwash. I used to have that issue with my wisdom teeth because I just could never floss back there properly. I had all four of them removed to prevent more problems down the line. You do not need surgery for gingivitis unless it has progressed to perionditis (not sure of the spelling)

Bleeding gums can be caused by many things. Just Go to a dentist and he will let you know what it is.

Try the traditional way, there are some chewing-sticks that can solve your problem, walk to one. Not the road-side paraga sellers, but the real Alagbo's.

I had that problem and it generated to occasional bleeding even
when i didnt brush my teeth. I discovered that my use of Listerine
mouthwash was excessive and that i had not been to the dentist for
the six monthly recommended dentist cleaning. I stopped using Listerine
temporarily and visited the dentist. It could cost you some money but its money
well spent. SEE A GOOD DENTIST

Abeg use chewing stick and salt jare. When I suffered the same thing, I resorted to chewing stick and salt. Within some days, the thing stopped.

Methinks this is as a result of some vitamin deficiency, try see a dentist.

According to my dentist and oral hygiene books I've read it is good when it happens. It is often the sign of the beginning stages of gum disease and by brushing even harder you nip it in the bud. Not brushing the night before is probably what allowed the bacteria to begin to set in.

What you have is called Chronic Adult Periodontitis (  Gum disease to you and me ).

You need to see a Dentist ASAP and whist you are searching for one because it appears you haven't been to one in a long time, try using an anti-septic mouthwash like Corsodyl ( Eludril ) , Listerin or Peroxyl. Your gum problem is definitely not due whether your toothbrush is hard or not.

To all that made sensible comments, big-ups, and to the very senseless pple with very low IQ, na una sabi, toto ko tete ni, mayb na una mama toto i lick weh dey cause am,    its an observation i felt i could share here and i am surprised at pple's response, lesson learnt though. I have gone to see a dentist and its not as bad as u guys are making it sound.

sorry abt dat, It is 2-ways, it's either an infection or a deficient in vitamins.
the soultion is simple, take fruits rich in vitamin C. take vitamin B-complex, change ur toothbrush at least evry 3 months and, check ur toothpaste 2. After all these it should stop.
if sypmtoms persist, see ur dentist

Heck, get a deep-cleaning done too while you are at it.

you have allergy to some foods-high citric acid fruits and drinks,dust ,malts and stout, perfumes. Try avoid fermentions in your mouth. avoid bread and butter , very cold drinks.
brush hard the blood out each time and use light salty water afterward.
