Ensure supervisor is prepared for meetings and missions by drafting talking points and establishing contacts on the subject matters to be discussed. Accompany supervisor to meetings and on missions in order to prepare notes on the discussions, ensuring follow-ups and support with any relevant input. Support the supervisor in efforts to raise the profile of UNHCR and the agency’s concerns within the context of the broader United Nations system. Assist in coordinating draft of position papers and other documents relevant to the activities of the office. Ensure high-level visitors are appropriately addressed, that they receive background information as necessary, and that protocol is respected. Perform any other related duties as required. ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS · University degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law or other related fields; · Minimum 2 years of professional job experience relevant to the functions or in related fields; · A proven ability to act with discretion and diplomacy is essential for this function · Excellent computer skills, in particular in MS Office applications · Excellent communication skills. - Excellent knowledge of English with working knowledge of another relevant UN language and/or local language is essential. Call for Applications: Commonwealth Youth Human Rights and Democracy Network Coordinator The Commonwealth Youth Human Rights and Democracy Network (CYHRDN) provides a platform for collaboration with young people on important national, regional and global human rights issues. It also strengthens the capacity of young people to engage with their communities, policy-makers and wider stakeholders. The network aims to achieve its advocacy and capacity-building objectives through partnerships to contribute to research, policies and programmes. Read more about CYHRDN here. Role description The Coordinator will work with the Commonwealth Secretariat and its partners to support the planning and programme implementation of the network. Their primary role will be to mainstream young people’s participation in thematic areas including Discrimination, Disability and Domestic Violence. The role will be for six (6) months from mid-October 2016 until mid-March 2017. Specific duties will include: • Increase Commonwealth youth participation in human rights policy and advocacy at the Commonwealth and United Nations level by co-ordinating and organising the participation of Commonwealth youth in national Universal Periodic Review processes; • Support capacity-building and empowerment of Commonwealth youth to engage in human rights interventions at policy and programmatic levels by co-ordinating and co-organising a Commonwealth Youth Capacity-Building Training on Human Rights; • Support structure and membership by updating the CYHRDN Strategic Plan and facilitating the initial steps of the network leadership team following the appointment of Steering Committee members and Regional Coordinators from across the Commonwealth; • Improve partnership and collaboration by strengthening the network’s relationship with the Commonwealth Secretariat, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Commonwealth Youth Council, and other Commonwealth accredited organisations; • Increase visibility and outreach by promoting the network on social media and other online platforms in order to engage more Commonwealth youth in planned activities, while also increasing the network’s membership; and • Co-ordinate CYHRDN by facilitating monthly online meetings with the Steering Committee and Regional Coordinators, and provide periodic reports on the network’s activities. Eligibility Criteria • Aged between 18 to 29 years at the time of application; • Citizen of a Commonwealth member country; • Have a strong commitment to the CYHRDN’s vision and mission; • Have experience with youth-led initiatives, projects or organisations focusing on human rights and democracy; • Belong to an active and officially registered youth-led or youth-focused organisation, community group, etc. focusing on human rights, democracy, sustainable development; • Have a proven track record on their work, verifiable from existing references, online videos, links, reports, publications, blogs, etc; and • Available to commit 15-20 hours/week to network activities. The incumbent will provide technical assistance to clusters and their members with regard to data collection, its processing, management, mapping and reporting. Under minimum supervision, the candidate will be dedicated to one of the following clusters/sectors: Health, Nutrition, Food Security, WASH, Protection, Shelter/CCCM/NFI, Coordination. He/she will ensure that information management products are timely delivered and of highest quality. RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Cluster Co-leads and under the administrative oversight by iMMAP's Programme Manager, the Information Management Officer (IMO) will provide support with data collection, its vetting, cleaning and processing, database development and/or maintenance, GIS mapping, data analysis and reporting, infographic design, website design and/or administration, training of junior staff and any other required support for the benefit of sectors and the humanitarian community. Tasks are, but not limited to the following: • Collect 4/5W data from partner organizations in a consistent and compatible format, enabling information sharing and analysis; • Consolidate and perform quality control on data collected; • Develop and administer relevant datasets and/or databases including content, structure, file location, backup system, using accepted international standards; • Generate maps, reports and other information graphics to support planning and decision-making; • Provide technical support to the assigned cluster/sector in information management and data analysis; • Ensure timely dissemination of necessary information to UNOCHA, cluster members and other stakeholders; • Ensure continuous communication with other clusters/agencies IMOs for enhanced coordination and mapping of humanitarian response activities; • Develop simple, user-friendly data reporting tools, in consultation with supervisors; ensuring sex, age and vulnerable groups disaggregation are taken into account; • Train and promote the use of standard agreed-upon tools among cluster members; • Ensure the use and application of appropriate information technology in daily tasks; • Reinforce the IM capacity of partners; • Represent the cluster in meetings; • Perform any other duty as requested and assigned by the supervisors. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: • Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Geographical Information Systems, Computer Science or other relevant field; • A first level university degree combined with an extensive relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a university degree. EXPERIENCE: • Minimum Five (5) years of work experience in the field of Information Management; • Thorough knowledge of the UN cluster system and how it operates; • Relevant experience in working with the UN or other humanitarian organizations in emergency setting; • Experience in emergency relief management and field coordination; • Experience using ArcGIS and Adobe Suite software; • Excellent command of Microsoft Office suite (with emphasis on data manipulation in MS Excel or MS Access); • Fluency in English is essential (written and spoken).
