The origin of poor Self-esteem

Two factors rank highest as the origin of poor self-esteem
They are: Childhood and peer pressure.
Childhood is a very important stage in the development of self-esteem, whether poor or proper. That's why the bible says: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Your child's judgement of himself/herself influences the kinds of friends he/she chooses, how he/she gets along with others, the kind of person he/she marries and how productive he/she will be. It affects his/her creativity, integrity, stability and even whether he/she will be a leader or a follower. His attitude towards himself/herself has a direct bearing on how he/she lives all parts of his/he life. Infant, self-esteem is the mainspring that slates every child for success or failure as a human being.

How to Develop Proper Self-Esteem

The foundation of proper Self-esteem is love! Clearly, for your life to be meaningful to Others, you must understand that self-love is what will motivate you to love others.
David wrote: If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalms 11:3
Also, you cannot know what it means to love yourself, if you do not love God. Jesus said: ....Thou shalt love the lord thy God with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:37-39
One important thing you must understand about God's love is that it's unconditional. He has seen you at your worst and still loves you. So, in your relationship with him, you're not under the kind of pressure you would be in a human relationship. God did not wait for us to first be righteous before he commanded his love towards us. He loved and loves us just the way we were and are.

Change Your Thinking
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he Proverbs 23:7
The way you think will determine the way you behave. If you want to influence your behaviour, then you have to first change your thinking! The Bible says: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever thing are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; If there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

Let Go Of Your Negative Past
You must understand that if your life is ruled by your negative past, you can never reach out to your colourful future. Apostle paul says: ...but this one thing i do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before Philippians 3:14

Associate with Positive People
Your association goes a long way in affecting how you feel about yourself. The comments of others can drastically affect your thinking, and the way you see yourself. I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep their precepts. Psalm 119:63
Positive people or faith-filled people have a way of fertilizing your heart with words capable of feeding your faith, thereby enhancing your self-esteem. Therefore, beware of the kind of company you keep.

Speak Positive About Yourself
What you say about yourself will determine what others will think and say about you.

In conclusion, never make the mistake to think that your relationship and accomplishments in life will meet your deepest need for security and significance. Never base your self-worth on your performance or achievements, even though these are important, rather define yourself in the light of God's Word! As you do this, you will develop a proper self-esteem and live a distinguished life.
