Ecobank started this way back in 2013. Dial *326#. You can transfer funds, load recharge card, share airtime, pay utility, book flights etc. *326*0# to check ur acct balance. *326*200# to load ur phone with 200 airtime and so much more.

Used it for my Mom to check Her account balance and transfer fund.Fantastic. I normally won't say anything good about Union Bank, but I love it. I wish other banks approach d method, rather than internet banking.It's just like buying data from mtn using *131#. Simple.

Just tried it and got balances. Apart from this their mobile banking isvery versatile and user friendly, lots of amazing options.
All banks are into mobile banking, but UnionMobile is an exciting experience.
Their new slogan; Simpler, Smarter Banking.............I agree with the above.

Gtbank's own *737# is NOT SMS banking but USSD banking. They are both in the world of their own.

There's a difference between SMS banking and USSD banking. The *737# used by GTB is not SMS banking. Union Bank Mobile Banking can be accessed by, 389*032# and you have all the features of Union Mobile (check balance, funds transfer, airtime top up, bills payment, etc.)

SMS banking is not new though.

Guaranty Trust Bank has being the pioneer of SMS banking which you can open an account, check account balance, transfer funds by just dialing *737#. Therefore, you do not need an internet connection to be able to bank on the go.

Unon Bank PLC is following suit with their latest introduction of SMS banking, into their banking system. However, unlike the GTB style of SMS banking, Union Bank has just one feature enabled in its SMS banking; which is the ''Check your balance''. According to them, other features like transfer funds, view transaction history, etc will be introduced with time.

For now, you can use your mobile phone to check your account balance on your Union bank account, without using the internet by just texting ''Bal'' to 20123

For me, this is a great achievement from the bank, they are making it easy for people to bank on the go instead of going to the bank.
