It seems

In the 1000 kg class there is two type of glide bombs, winged and non winged glide bombs.

In the 500 kg class there is also two type of glide bombs , winged and non winged glide bombs

Winged glide bombs have range of 100+ km depending on release altitude

Non winged glide bombs have range of 30-40 km depending on release altitude

Again according to latest info there is a new LRGB ( long range glide bombs ) of 500 kg ( 2 variants ) and 1000 kg ( 3 variants ) glide bombs under development which are longer range variants of the winged and non winged glide bombs.

All these bombs r inertially guided using onboard INS with integrated GNSS receivers.

Control signal interference ?

Did not understand what you said
wrong choice of words. How do you guarantee that the bomb stays on course from 100km away?

MEMS based INS is used for guidance of the glide bombs

Pilot feeds in the coordinates via cockpit interface and the bomb is released which guides itself inertially using MEMS based INS which also includes IRNSS (NavIC)-GPS-GLONASS-GAGAN Receiver. Basically like a fire and forget system.

Some of the drdo developed INS

GPS jammers are cheap as piss nowadays. In heavily access denied areas with GPS signal jamming an additional terminal guidance system via wave radar or optical would be more effective. The US relies heavily on JDAMs and Thomahawks so i wonder if they found a way to modulate the GPS signal to make it jam-prove.

First let me clear this regarding space based positions and timing signals.

One cannot change the characteristics of the space based signals from ground . The characteristics r hard wired in the satellites transponders . So no modulation etc possible on downlink from ground.

space based positions and timing signals beamed from space r generally in 2 frequencies

Civilian use which is degraded and unencrypted
Most countries military uses the civilian version of GPS GLONASS etc

Military use which is accurate and encrypted. Countries which have their own navigation satellites like US Russia China EU Indi.. use their own military grade signals . Some other countries might use the military grade signals if there have agreements with the above countries to use the same. The above countries don't share the encryption codes but they sell the receivers which can decrypt the military GPS signals.

Eg

Indi... IRNSS (NavIC) civilian positioning signals have a accuracy of 5-10 m , while the encrypted military signals have a accuracy of 0.1 m.

Some countries if they have the capabilities, use multiple civilian grade signal from different receivers like GPS glonass etc and combine the same onto a single receiver to allow positioning close to military grade signals and also to act as a failsafe incase GPS gets jammed then GLONASS keeps working and vice versa.

What one hears about jamming of signals in public is mostly the civilian GPS signals. It is easy to jam signals from space since the downlinks r always low powered.

Military grade positioning signals r another matter , it is not that easy to jam since they have inbuilt counter jam capabilities , what those capabilities r is classified information. Plus military solutions r available which can counter jam gps jammers . Only few countries have the capabilities to enforce meaningful jamming of military grade positioning signals.

Anyways

The pic below is a combined

IRNSS (NavIC)-GPS-GLONASS-GAGAN Receiver

It uses positioning signals from GNSS satellite constellations of 3 countries

1. Indi.. - IRNSS ( Indi.. Regional Navigation Satellite System ) NavIC. Civilian / military signals.

Indi.. - GAGAN ( GPS-aided GEO augmented navigation ) satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS). Civilian signals.

2. USA - Global Positioning System (GPS) - civilian signals only

3. Russia - GLONASS . Civilian / military signals. Indi.. has agreement with Russia to use the military signals from GLONASS.

If one of them is jammed the others take over to maintain accuracy. Even if 2 signals eg GPS or GLONASS r jammed which is a very difficult thing to do in real life , still it will maintain accuracy.

During kargil war in 1999 USA switched off GPS signals over Indi... , as a result all these efforts for redundancy in navigation system.

I explained that in the last comment in the page before.

Generally anything moving inorder to maintain accuracy will need a INS which is a short form of inertial navigation system.

This is very complex hard to engineer piece of equipment and also very costly

It is used in submarines to determine its position under the seas and oceans

It is used in ICBMs , long range cruise missiles etc to determine its position in space / atmosphere.

It is used in modern artillery guns , tanks etc

What is INS ?

From Wikipedia

An inertial navigation system (INS) is a navigation device that uses a computer, motion sensors (accelerometers) and rotation sensors (gyroscopes) to continuously calculate by dead reckoning the position, the orientation, and the velocity (direction and speed of movement) of a moving object without the need for external references.

But sometimes external inputs like SATNAV is used to enhance accuracy , correct small errors which build up with time or for redundancy purpose. Generally continuous update is not necessary .

They r of many types

Fiber Optic Gyros (FOG), Ring Laser Gyros (RLG) and MEMS Gyro Systems based Inertial Navigation Systems integrated with SATNAV receivers.

FOG based INS for tactical applications.
Navigation Systems for Land, Ship and Airborne applications.

Redundant Inertial Navigation Systems for Long Range applications.

Hybrid Inertial Navigation Systems with integrated GNSS receivers.

Etc

@Jimi24

This one is another drdo PGM known as PGHSLD

if u read the information posted in the pics below u will get an idea on how this guidance thing works

U will note that the INS of the aircraft is tied to the FOG based INS of the bomb ( INS with GPS )

Also the bomb uses a SAL ( semi active laser ) seeker to increase its terminal accuracy.

I learned something today..

Let me clarify some more

A satellite might have a fixed frequency ( with a fixed modulation scheme ) or a set range of frequencies ( with each frequency having a different modulation scheme ) which it can transmit or receive.

And if it has a set range of frequencies ( with different modulation schemes ) which it can broadcast

Then generally it will come with selectable broadcast frequencies ( with corresponding different modulation schemes ) which needs to set for the satellite via command signal sent from the ground control station.

Also the satellite might have pre programmed broadcast pattern of designated frequencies ( with corresponding different modulation schemes ) seperated in the time domain with no need of intervention from ground based control station.

Other than this no possible alteration in the physical characteristics of the signal is possible unless those characteristics r built in and pre-programmed and designed to be generated by the onboard systems on the satellite directly or indirectly from the ground terminal via remote activation.

If u want to enable new modulation techniques or new encryption methodologies for transmission by a satellite then u will need to install the corresponding systems on a new satellite and send it to orbit.

Also let me add it easier to hack into the satellite downlink than the uplink from the ground terminal to the satellite.

For the layman it means it is easier to steal information being beamed from the satellite to the ground terminal than to steal information being beamed from the ground terminal to the same satellite

Today Airbus presented LOUT (Low Observable UAV Testbed).
According to Airbus, the program took a “holistic approach” of stealth, simultaneously focusing on three aspects: reducing radar, IR, visual and acoustic signature, controlling electromagnetic emission of sensors and using electronic countermeasures for jamming and deception.

Initial studies by Airbus started in 2007. In 2010, the manufacturer received a contract by the German Ministry of Defense for a very low observable (VLO) ground testbed to experiment on reducing radar, infrared and sound emissions. Airbus defined its development at the two sites of Manching and Bremen as a “Skunk Works approach”, after the name of Lockheed Martin design bureau responsible, among others, for the SR-71 Blackbird and the F-117 Nighthawk, both developed in secrecy.

The LOUT has served to test stealth technologies that could later be used on the Next Generation Fighter, part of the Future Air Combat System (FCAS) program conjointly developed by Airbus and Dassault. The technologies developed using the LOUT may be used by Airbus to gain leverage in the program, whose direction was awarded to Dassault.

The two manufacturers are still waiting for the green light from the French, German and Spanish governments to start developing their demonstrators.

Although the Project`s name indicates that it is a pilotless Drone it seems they were working on a manned model aswell.

Force Gurkha for the army

The LSV has been rigorously tested in competitive trials against 4 other LSVs by the armed forces for over two years. This involved traversing rough terrains as varied as the scorching deserts of Rajasthan (50deg Celsius) to the sub-zero temperatures in the Himalayas (-30deg Celsius).

The LSV is designed for quick ingress and egress, and is capable of performing on extreme terrain, with manoeuvrability, high speed and stability, 4×4 configuration, and have differential locks on all wheels.

It is also equipped with run-flat tyres and has provision to mount assault weapons like a ATGM launcher and machine guns.

The LSV can be airlifted and dropped into enemy territory, for use as an advance fast strike vehicle.
