http://dailypost.ng/2016/07/15/ndigbo-contributed-to-the-development-of-lagos-abuja-ohaneze/The Igbo nation has noted that it contributed over
30 per cent to the development of Lagos and have
helped in developing Abuja too, stressing that the
present state of affairs in the country makes it
imperative for the people to look inwards to build
Igboland.
This decision was taken yesterday when Igbo
leaders gathered in Owerri, Imo State capital, where
the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze
Ndigbo called the government and traditional
institutions of the South-East states to a think-tank
in Owerri tagged Igbo Unity Forum.
In his welcome speech, the President-General of
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Gary Enwo Igariwey said the
Igbo group has been striving to be the mouth-piece
of the people of the region without success. He
therefore expressed joy that they had succeeded in
closing ranks in order to move the race forward.
In his welcome speech, the President-General of
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Gary Enwo Igariwey said the
Igbo group has been striving to be the mouth-piece
of the people of the region without success. He
therefore expressed joy that they had succeeded in
closing ranks in order to move the race forward.
“We have never had it like this in coming together
to proffer solutions to Igbo problems,” Igariwey
said.
Noting that the Igbos are very adventurous and
great achievers, he pointed out that they contributed
over 30 per cent to the development of Lagos and
have helped in developing Abuja too.
The Ohanaeze leader therefore called on the Igbos
to now think home to replicate those things they
have done in Lagos and Abuja in Igboland.
His words: “We should come together and solve
our problems. We are known for our resilience and
industry. Thirty per cent of investments in Lagos
and Abuja is owned by Ndigbo but now we are
calling on our people to think home and build
another Abuja in Igbo land.
“We should invest at home to create jobs for our
people. So, today is a special day because we
have decided as a people to close ranks and
proffer solutions to our problems.”
Also speaking, former governor of old Anambra
State, who was the chairman of the occasion,
Senator Jim Nwobodo, called on successful
businessmen of Igbo extraction to start investing at
home in order to create employment opportunities
for Igbo youths.
For the guest lecturer at the occasion, Prof. Anya
O. Anya, the time has come for Ndigbo to re-
recover themselves if they must survive in the
current situation in the country, admonishing that,
“The solutions to our problems can only be found
within and not outside. We are the only ones that
can solve our own problems.”
He added: “We are preparing to rebuild Igbo land
to meet with the Nigeria of the 21st Century. We
have gathered because the time is critical so that
we can chart a new course for our people. There
has never been a time we are faced with a barrage
of problems like now so we need our past to find
solutions to our problems.”

Igbos contributed say 10% to the development of Lagos. Yorubas contributed 85% the remaining tribes just 5%. Igbos should stop seeing their contributions as massive as it is rather ineffluential and makes no reasonable sense to judgement

No doubt. Igbos are very industrious. In abuja they own over 70% of the hotels and leisure spots. They own major plazas, supermarkets and even residential estates.

The more reason why they must think twice when some factions are shouting for a referendum for separation.

Actually the Igbo people contributed to the development of Lagos in no small measure

However, Dangote's contribution to the development of Lagos State alone is much more than all the businesses of Igbos in Lagos State put together

And I've never heard Dangote boasting he contributed anything to the development of Lagos

Empty barrel makes the loudest noise

If Dangote should dare withdraw all his business interest from Lagos State, the government would feel it more than the combined business of Igbos been withdrawn.

Dangote is just one of the Hausas who owned businesses in Lagos....Niger Delta people are in lagos and they own most banks, media houses and investment.....these people never ever say they are the livewire of Lagos

When would this chest-beating stop for Christ sake?

Igbos Investment In The North Worth Over N45 Trillion, Own 73% Of Abuja - Arewa

Stop molesting northerners in the East, ACF warns Igbos

Arewa Consultative Forum has warned Igbos to stop maltreating their kinsmen in the name of fighting the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

The Deputy National Secretary of the ACF, Abubakar Umar, while receiving the South-South/South-East Arewa Coalition who were on a courtesy call to the ACF in Kaduna on Friday, said the warning became necessary in view of the ongoing intimidation of northerners in the Eastern part of the country in the name of fighting Boko Haram insurgents.

Umar noted that the Forum was of the view that there was nothing wrong in issuing identification cards to the northerners trading in the East, provided that issuance of the cards was done in good faith.

He expressed fears that if the north should embark on such ventures, multi-billion naira business investments of the Igbos resident in the north could be endangered.

According to him, the development could cause crisis that might lead to undeserved division of Nigerians on ethnic or religious lines.

He insisted that statistics available to the Forum indicated that Igbos’ investments in Kaduna, Kano and Plateau states alone amounted to N45tr, noting that with such huge investments in just three states of the north, Igbos have no reason to maltreat northerners doing businesses in the East.

“If the table turns round, it could be disastrous as these investments may suffer for it, but we are praying for understanding among Nigerians to accept themselves wherever they live to earn legitimate means of livelihood,” he said.

Umar continued that the Yorubas and Igbos in Jos, capital of Plateau State lost N480bn and N410bn investments respectively to the 2011 post-election violence while the South-South also lost N970bn in the same crisis.

He said, “We know these statistics; we have these statistics, so we expect the Igbos to treat our kinsmen, our brothers and sisters in the East as kings and queens in view of the fact that they (Igbos) have more investments in the north than in the East.

“Take Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, for example, Igbos occupy over 73 per cent of the land, so these are some of the reasons why they should be everybody’s keepers in their place.”

The leader of the Coalition, Awwal Yusuf, had earlier told members of the ACF that northerners were doing business under fear in the East and called on the ACF to intervene because according to him, every trader or Muslim from the north was considered a Boko Haram member.

Yusuf said the Arewa Coalition had taken to court the issue of identity card in order to seek justice and be freed from undue molestation in the hands of the people in the area.

“We are so embarrassed with this issue of identity cards, why should it be only traders or Muslims from the north that should be identified. We have taken the case to a court in Enugu,” Yusuf said.

If the igbos decide to take their business outside Lagos then Lagos is going into recession

Go to any bank and ask apart from government funds the igbos deposits the highest money in any bank in south west

The igbos pays the highest tax in Lagos state

If the igbos demand deputy governor position in Lagos state they deserve it
