Transmission Company Of Nigeria Show Of Shame. by luciomoggi(m): 2:00pm On Jul 20, 2016

Wonders they say never ends and that is exactly what most Lagosians felt when the the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Lagos Region (TCN) announced that many parts of Lagos state will experience total blackout between 10am-1pm on Monday (19-07-2016).

While the action to inform the general public is highly commendable , it also seems like making a mockery of the public who have had darkness forced upon them for decades by the same company. The TCN cannot claim ignorance of the fact that most Lagosians cannot even boast of one hour of electricity a day . Though power transmission has been a problem every Nigerian government in power have tried both sincerely and fraudulently to solve, the result has been anything far from successful and this only got worse in the present administration with the country recording the lowest power transmission in it's history in the last 14 months.

So judging from the announcement from TCN, Nigerians see it as another move by the TCN to remain relevant in the minds of the populace who have come to detest the several unholy actions of the TCN which has forcefully made Nigerians to resort to power generating sets as their last resort.

To make it clear, such blackout announcements are done in Western and industrialised countries where there is uninterrupted power supply to homes and where power is cut only in exceptional cases. Therefore this is not the case In Nigeria as the reverse is the case and power transmitted to homes only in exceptional cases as darkness has come to stay . According to the announcement , the blackout is as a result of the maintenance work which will be carried out on the Akangba 132KV transmission substation but the question still remains on why the transmission of power still remains poor and epileptic each day going by the funds that has been sunk into the power sector. One thing the writer of this article will try to avoid is the probing and investigation of the corruption that has engulfed the power sector which will greatly derail the purpose of the writing. Though the action of TCN is one that must be applauded this time, they should also ask themselves why their announcement is mocked and jeered by the same people who should appreciate it. The answer is because the TCN has not lived up to it's responsibilities and has only worsened the situation of things for the populace with their epileptic services.

To be taken more seriously next time, the TCN must work on their services and make life more comfortable for the populace as they (TCN) are seen as a company of corporate Fraudsters considering the huge electricity bill and the real worth of their poor electricity transmission to homes. A word they say is enough for the wise!!!
