Is EFCC's Investigation On Gov. Fayose Doing More Harm Than Good? by fizyalasdair(m): 5:07pm On Jul 20, 2016 |
Governor Ayo Fayose has been on the EFCC's case, they freezed his account. APC went on to accuse Gov. Fayose on using state funds in fighting off the EFCC case, something he vehemently denied. The APC said the he used 22 million naira to fly his lawyer from Lagos to Akure from where he traveled to Ado-Ekiti. If Gov. Fayose did that then it was indeed irresponsible but then again, what did the EFCC expect a Governor who has no access to his personal account do, go borrow money from friends and family? His pride wouldn't let him do that. That 22 million naira might have been the salary of more than 200 civil servants in the state most of whom have been unpaid for some months now(that is if he used the N22 million as accused). In general the investigation on Gov. Fayose was to increase transparency, but freezing his personal account might be doing more harm than good as he is likely going to dip hands into the state funds to take care of personal funds. At first most political activists and PDP said that Section 308 of the 1999 constitution provided Gov. Fayose with immunity but Mr. Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (S.A.N) and human rights lawyer, made it clear to Nigerians saying "if he (Gov. Fayose) is indicted, Fayose ought to be prosecuted by the EFCC since the immunity of a Governor is put in abeyance when the legitimacy of his election is in dispute" One interesting thing Mr. Falana said was "notwithstanding that the allegation is completely baseless, i fully support the investigation" I too support an investigation on any corrupt practice, but an investigation that is completely baseless?; That's quite rash. (Or what do you think?) The EFCC should have a very solid and concrete legal evidence before even thinking of freezing Gov. Fayose's personal account. Just as i pointed above, Freezing Gov. Fayose's account has hampered his ability to properly function as a Governor. My suggestion (which i'm sure many Nigerians share with me) would be; If the EFCC have a case against Gov. Fayose, then they should unfreeze his account, go back and organise enough solid legal evidence and document and present it to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for the to follow the due process as stated in Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution and determined whether they would impeach him or not. Should the State House of Assembly decide to impeach him, then fine, they would then install a new Governor (whom we hope be more transparent and would do a better job than Gov. Fayose), should they (The State House of Assembly) decide not to impeach him (in this context the word "decide" refers to the outcome), then the EFCC let him do his job as the Governor and continue building a case against him which he would answer to once he leaves office. This suggestion is driven by pellucid facts that the EFCC investigation on Gov. Fayose is taking too long and is going no where,it might be doing more harm than good. Anyone else with a better suggestion should please speak up, because the people of Ekiti state would love to have a fully functioning Government as poverty in the state is rapidly increasing. Please do remember that each state contributes to the growth of this country, help the people of Ekiti and spread the word, i'm not from Ekiti neither do i reside in Ekiti but i believe the people of Ekiti have suffered long enough. Thank you. -#UnfreezeFayose |

What investigation? EFCC and DSS under Buhari are attack dogs to shut the mouth of opposition. The more you refuse being caged, the more they attack, persecute and destabilize you, your business and your State. What is happening to Fasoye is just a repetition of Obasanjo's Forces of Darkness and EFCC verses Orji Uzor Kalu where Slok Airline was grounded on flimsy excuse, Slok Shipping line banned, Oil license withdrawn. State allocation seized for paying the loan frm Governor Mbakwe collected for development of Imo State in 1979 to 1983 before the creation of Abia State and so many other witch-hunts and policy somersault to get at a perceived enemy. Orji Kalu was more than an average Governor in terms of performance during his first term in office 1999 to 2003 until his ambition (during his second term) to become president clashed with Obasanjo's third term ambition. Buhari is on a mission to destroy Fayose and Ekiti State should the Governor refuse giving up on criticizing Buhari's government. The truth is that PDP will receive sympathy vote in 2018 in Ekiti State no-matter what as to retain the governorship seat. 1 Like |
