This car is not a Peugeot 504 or volkswagen Santana. If you dont want to die of a heart attack, just simply abandon this project. Look for an original LHD version and save yourself the head ache. Read all the things the big bosses here have adviced you on and consider it.

I think it's an Ill-advised venture, having said that, I'm ready to eat my words and love engineering projects so please keep us updated, not everything is about money.

Initially once you've found out the cost of all the parts, please post them here. Hint there are a 101 dead RR sports in Lagos so if you are doing the conversion there why not buy one of them and break for parts, friend of mine sold his LR3 for N600k it was so troublesome as an indicator of what it might cost you.

Those driving conventional LHD RRSA already have huge challenges dealing with the complexity that comes with its usage in Nigeria in addition to the dearth of technical expertise for maintenance let alone a converted one.

This is not an older model of the SUV but a very recent model. I will be interested in the outcome of this conversion after a few months of usage. This particular model of Range is everywhere in Abuja so I don't understand what's so special about his that he has consistently insisted on the conversion.

Don't know much about cars. ... but putting the expenses aside... the car is a luxury car... and newer luxury cars mean more complexity and less room for tolerance... everything must be done exactly the way they should be. With you watching over the ehmm... transformation... let's pretend I'm the magician mechanic..... in the end after I hand over the car back to you.... and something goes wrong... infact.. when the first thing goes wrong... you return to me..... can you blame me?...when you were right there watch g over my shoulders? Sell the car. ... buy a comparable LHD version... but if you have money to burn..... I wish you luck.

TBH the only mechanical part that is going to be fabricated is the hole through which the steering column goes fru to meet the rack

Finally an interesting thread on car talk amongst all the tripe.

Erico2k2, I would call myself a converted car from UK connoisseur. I have 4 cars I brought back with me in 2013 when I packed my bags and left (however, all of them combined weren't worth 1/5 of your range rover).

Now these cars were all converted ladipo using locally sourced parts and are all still running like champs till date. During the conversion of mine, there was also an E65 745i getting converted the same time. I'm not sure what it's fate is now though.

The major issue is, none of these cars are as complex as the range rover you intend working on.

I would assume the most complex was the E46 I currently use which has been so stellar and so reliable I got tired of it. The rest were 2004 - 2006 Euro Accord, CRV and W203 sport coupe (okay, maybe this was the most complex).

What I'm trying to say is, I respect the cojonés you must have to take on this undertaking, and if it all works out, it could indeed be interesting.

I am not here to dampen your enthusiasm with 'what ifs' and all that. I do believe in following your heart and doing what you want to do after properly weighing the pros and cons.

If in the end, after you have properly assessed the situation, and the pros are more than the cons, and your mind is totally prepared for the cataclysmic amount of borkage that could occur, then go ahead with it and keep us updated.

I think I fancy a new barge (E38) to smoke around in after getting bored of the E46. And getting one from the UK and converting to smoke around in till I get bored again is on the cards.

We are not a big fan of these scaremongering scoundrels as to car conversion and the hiccups associated with compromising safety. The reality is that people will not contemplate conversion, if they can afford a decent factory manufactured LHD vehicle. The flip side is the hidden agenda the car owners also have for wanting to save a few pennies to show that you have haggling prowess in order to get their car converted. The genuineness of the likes of sienna is often wasted on the fact that car owners will still end up converting their cars anyway. So if you want to convert your car so be it. Whichever make or model go for it but make sure you buy the essential parts and use a qualified specialist for the job!! We find it amusing when people enquire about the price of LHD parts from us and expect to get it for peanuts. "Oh it is four times cheaper in Nigeria or Ghana" well, we cannot comment about the parts you will get in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon or Gambia neither can we assume the issue of where the so called cheaper parts are being sourced. That is why it is advisable to shop around. Bottom line get OEM parts specific to the car you want to convert. That is the least car owners can do to minimise cowboys in the auto industry and promote safety as well.
Try getting your hand on literature it may give you some ideas as to the project you are about to venture into, don't you think?
