Well, honorary titles are supposed to be for those who have already "sweat it out" successfully in other aspects of life and made enormous contributions to society. Congrats ought to be in order.

Though it is becoming all-comers in developing nations.

Honourees are also not supposed to use the "Dr" prefix. It should be DLitt (hc), DSc (hc), PhD (hc). etc as a suffix.

honoris causa (hc) = for the sake of honour.
