The Lekki-Epe express way was constructed between 1979-1984 by the then governor of Lagos state "Chief Lateef Jakande". The construction of that road was the main catalyst to the present day development we have witnessed in lekki peninsula. Before and immediately after the construction of the road, Lekki was just a den of forest inhabited mostly by animals and trees which no body wanted to live in. 

Since the construction of the road, Lekki has witnessed tremendous development with some of the most expensive estates in the country situated there like Lekki phase 1 and 2, VGC, Chevron estate etc..
