Militants blow up Shell trunk line in Delta. – Suspected militants attacked major crude oil exports trunk line belonging to SPDC – The trunk line located close to Odimodi community in Delta state was attacked on Monday morning A major crude oil exports trunk line close to Odimodi community in Delta state was attacked by suspected militants in the early hours of Monday, August 1. The trunk line Trans-Ramos, is said to belong to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Vanguard reports. A resident of the community, Endoro New-world, who confirmed the incident said: “The incident occurred at 1am, with the intensity of the blast shaking apartments in the community amidst a huge ball of fire. READ ALSO: Niger Delta group accuse northerners of deadly plot “At sunrise, a group from the community in company of SPDC’s surveillance team was able to locate the site of the blast.” This is coming 10 days after two hunters were tied up by some suspected militants who left their items, including dynamites, cables and a shovel behind after they failed to excavate the spot to be exploded on the trunk line amidst a downpour. The hunters reportedly managed to escape. They immediately alerted the Odimodi community vigilante, which came to the scene of the incident with security agents from the SPDC platform. Militants have been vandalizing oil pipelines in the Niger Delta regi0on, vowing to cripple the economy until the federal government meets their demands. President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that his administration was doing all it could to put an end to the militancy by studying the Amnesty report. READ ALSO: FG to battle militants if negotiation fails The federal government has reached out to the militants for dialogue but, the militants are not willing to negotiate, saying any negotiation without the involvement of the international communities will not be accepted. Buhari has said his administration was negotiating with militants through oil companies and he is currently waiting for the reportof the international oil companies and the security agencies and that of the special adviser on Niger Delta Affairs who is also on that assignment. |
