Heard from re-lie-able source that they actually bought Nigerias national anthem CD from Onitsha. But when the guys at the Olympics played the disc, they found that it was actually Lord of the Rings DVD with Nigerian national anthem written on it.

Lmao, always Naija. We never get things done properly and in time. What did we expect when the team itself just arrived a few hours to the game.
Kudos to the boys though, a nice win, just need to work on that defense.

I remember that. It was the semi-final of Tunisia 2004 (Nigeria vs Tunisia). They played Nigeria We Hail Thee, rather than Arise O Compatriots. I remember Kanu shouting "No!" when he heard it.

There was also an Olympics in which the organisers hoisted a very strange flag which they said was the nigerian flag. It had a very dark shade of green. Thankfully the nigerian delegation noticed it during the flag raising ceremony and complained to the organisers. It was subsequently changed.
