China has invented a new bus called The Transit Elevated Bus also known as the ‘Straddle Bus’.
The concept actually dates back to 1969, when a similarly shaped Boston-to-New York “Landliner” was proposed

In 2010, Engineer Song Youzhou, chair of the delightfully named Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co., introduced it as well (TEB) at a high-tech Beijing expo.

In 2016, the high-riding bus that can glide over severe traffic congestion was first tested at the Chinese port city of Qinhuangdao.

Tebtech, a company that contributed in the building of TEB said the test evaluated the braking system, drag and power consumption.

The invention is constructed to lift buses up above traffic so they are not slowed by it and don’t make traffic worse.

In other words, to be grade-separated and hence faster than bus rapid transit (BRT), but less pricey than a subway. The smart idea could potentially reduce congestion and pollution in the world’s most populous country.

The bus is built to carry up to 1200 passengers going to work and back.

The passenger compartment rises far above other vehicles on the road, allowing cars to pass underneath. Therefore, the workers will get to work in time by literally being driven over the traffic.

The compartment is 22 meters long, 7.8 meters wide. To curb the risk of car clash, the boasts of two alarms to warn cars traveling too close to it, and signals to warn other vehicles when it is about to turn.
It also has inflatable evacuation slides like an aircraft. The bus will run along a fixed route, and its undercarriage rides along the edges of the two lanes.
