Nigerian artist Anidugbe Oluwatobiloba Daniel popularly known as Kiss Daniel is arguably the fastest rising star in the Nigerian music industry. The “Woju” crooner has delighted fans and critics alike with his recent work “Jombo” whose video has garnered over 400,000 views on Youtube within a short period of time. For an artist who has been mired in age controversy and an accusation that he lacks stage presence, Kiss Daniel has worked hard to prove his critics wrong and will certainly be pleased with the reception of his debut studio album “New Era”.

Questions however linger as to if Kiss Daniel will be able to reach and transcend the heights of Wizkid who is growing in leaps and bound presently and is seen as Africa’s biggest pop star in recent times in some quarters. There is every tendency that Kiss Daniel might go the way of various artistes who have seen a decline in terms of popularity and acceptance such as Blackface, Faze, Weird MC and a host of others, but there is also a probability that Kiss Daniel will do Nigeria proud.

So far, his songs have been a hit, wit “Woju”,”Mama” and “Jombo” still bringing people to their feets, Kiss Daniel needs however to go deeper, find himself, create an identity, a form exclusive to him. A mistake lots of artists in Nigeria have made has been to create only hit songs which eventually fade away, but legends within the industry were more concerned with their identity, their art. Within the years, they were able to hone their art and made it synonymous with their personality. Lagbaja, Tuface, King Sunnny Ade, Asa stayed true to their art, and refused to be swayed with the prospects of just making hit songs and gaining temporary fame. This is why Kiss Daniel has it all to do, so as not to fall a victim of his present success and start building his legacy. For a humble young man (a lot of us who have seen his prank video must have realized that by now), the Sky for Kiss Daniel is just his starting point, the Universe his limit.
