About 1,900 herdsmen were killed by Boko Haram terrorists in separate attacks in four years in Borno, the Al-Hayah cattle breeders association of Nigeria has said.

The chairman of the association, Alhaji Ibrahim Mafa, also said members of the association have lost about 169, 000 cows; 63, 000 rams; goats and sheep to the terrorists. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN), Mafa, said on Wednesday, August 10, that some of the stolen animals were kept around Dikwa town for onward transportation to other parts of the country for sale in neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon. He said: “We also lost about 400, 000 sacks of grains and a number of our members were displaced. “Our herdsmen have lost cows, property and houses worth about N26 billion in 10 local government areas in Northern Borno. “These areas include; Kala Balge, Marte, Mafa, Munguno, Bama, Konduga and Gwoza.


Mafa appealed to the government to come to the aid of the herdsmen, saying they are in dire need of help. Meanwhile, the senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Isa Hamma Misau has revealed that Boko Haram insurgents are setting up a new base in his home state of Bauchi. Senator Misau, who is a retired senior police officer told Daily Trust on phone that the terrorist group are now settling in Burra Forest in Ningi Emirate Council which is under his senatorial district.
