Governor’s Aide, Two Others Arrested For Circulating Inciting Documents by okeey(m): 9:35am On Sep 26, 2009
A Senior Special Assistant to the Niger State governor on Chieftaincy Matters, Alhaji Awaisu Wana Giwa and two others have been arrested by the police in Minna for allegedly circulating inciting documents.

Others arrested were Mr Bala Daniya Kuta and a Senior Lecturer in Islamic Matters at the state College of Education, Alhaji Kawu.

According to Saturday Tribune investigations, Awaisu Giwa and Bala Kuta were nabbed for serialising and circulating a document that warned the state government from embarking on any attempt to remove the traditional ruler of the Gbagyis.

A senior police officer told the Saturday Tribune that the duo warned, in the petition, that they, as Gbagyis, would do everything within their powers to resist such actions.

“We will not sit down and watch the government turn us to strangers in our land,” the petition by the suspects, according to the police, further read.

The arrest of Alhaji Kawu, it was learnt, was in connection with the circulation of another document which the police said was against the government’s hosting of the National Festival of Arts and Culture in Minna.

The state government is hosting the 10-day event from October 3.

Saturday Tribune further learnt that a search carried out on the residences of the suspects led to the unearthing of the documents, one of which had a fictitious name as its author.

As for Kawu, it was gathered that several copies of the documents were also found in his car.

Other inciting documents were allegedly found in the residences of Awaisu Giwa and Bala Daniya, the police source said.

Police spokesman, ASP Richard Oguche, who confirmed the development, said that the trio had been charged to court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, injurious falsehood and inciting public disturbances contrary to sections 97, 114 and 393 of the penal code.
