This thread is on the 2nd page am not a single supporter of this tax! I hail Nigerians! You want Nigeria to be developed but you don't want to pay the price! What do you people think was used to develop UK, USA and other developed countries? VAT in UK is 19%! Nigeria rank in the lowest 10% in Taxes collected as a percentage of GDP! Soup wey sweet, na money kill am. Let's do our part and hold our leaders accountable. I believe Nigeria will b great. |

Quakertellicus1: Our problem has never been oil price. Our main problem has been lack of leadership. Why would they keep taxing the citizens while they maintain their extravagant allowances? The president has N1.7B food budget, too many private jets, so many perks of office, senators earn too much for doing nothing other than to pad budgets. First, the president should reduce his food budget to N100m, sell of those jets, sponsor bills that would mandate public office holders to earn like civil servants, no more jumbo allowances etc then we can talk about more tax for the citizens. We can't be funding these idiots in power. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

nextstep: It's not possible to pay 50% of your earned income as tax unless you're a high net worth individual. That aside, the economy allows you to earn money as far as you're ready to work. In Nigeria people work without being paid and our minimum wage is a joke. If govt is really serious about the revenue drive then, they should introduce property tax to cover those that have more than one house, car etc. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Quakertellicus1: The informal sector is under taxed. How many artisans, traders, herdsmen, farmers, etc pay their taxes? So many companies don't report their true earnings just to avoid paying their taxes. Telecoms tax shows that this government is even more clueless than we had imagined. The FIRS guys should work hard and expand the tax base of this country, Fowler did a wonderful job in Lagos. I believe hes a technocrat and knows how to expand the tax base of Nigeria. Simple economics dictates that when in recession you don't increase taxes. 4 Likes |

Saintp: Good points you raised here. We can't afford to fund the extravagant lifestyle of our govt officials anymore. I believe the way forward is for the masses to stand up to them and say no to their excesses. The masses should decide what they can afford to pay govt officials. #1.7billion as feeding allowance for the presidency is just insane. 2 Likes |

ideology: No mind that guy. Nigerians provide their own basic needs without any contribution from the government. What every Nigerian should be talking about is how to cut down on government excesses. The more than 5 private jets at the disposal of the presidency should be turned to a national carrier. The tradition of budgeting #1.7billion and #4.5billion for food and health care for the presidency should should come to an end. Until all these and many more are implemented, no sane Nigerian should support the introduction of further taxes 3 Likes |

Quakertellicus1: You are a ZOMBIE Reason - Your govt have alleged that they have recovered trillions of looted funds, yet you have not asked them where the funds are - Your president is feeding on N1.7Billion from our taxes - Budget padding is not corruption - House of Assembly members are going home with Billions monthly, highest in the world from our taxes - House of assembly members are renovating their houses yearly, buying new cars bi -annually from our taxes - CBN has increase interest rates, the money is still our money - Your govt is struggling to pay 18 k minimum wage, some states have been paying half salaries for 2 years now, do you know how the masses as surviving - of all the oil producing countries, Nigeria sells fuel to her citizens at the highest rate - Your govt has no economic policy direction, companies are barely surviving, if they downsize you cry - Purchasing power has reduced hence manufactures' turnover is reducing, businesses are no longer profitable - Your govt spends billions feeding Animals in Zoo at Aso rock - Your govt own 7 private jets serviced with from our taxes - I live in an area where we provide our security, construct our roads, provide our water and power, yet we are still paying taxes If i am doing all these for myself, why should i pay tax I dont need to go further you are a ZOMBIE 8 Likes 4 Shares |

This current crop of Nigerian leaders Multiple taxation will not provide any extra fund to run government, they might as well print money. If there is insufficient receipts from crude, downsize! Scrap all wasteful expense heads, scrap some MDAs & make the rest run lean. Then find ways to stimulate the real sector e.g construction, manufacturing, agric. Most importantly, address our gargantuan trade deficit instead of applying such superficial policies. I doubt Buhari can even understand any of these basic precepts of economics, but then this is what we get for electing a president via sentiments alone. Not that buffoonish Goodluck Jonathan was a better choice anyways. . . 1 Like |

Johnrake69: Oga expect more, VAT might increase anytime from now, Expect toll gates from Fashola across the country. This is how APC runs, more taxes collected by tinubu's company, the more we contribute to Tinubu's Empire. They have already introduced taxes for house maids in Lagos, If i ever have a maid, he/she will never pay tax Pls note that we are already pay tax for each recharge card we buy, after paying tax for the card, you now pay tax for using the voucher, is that not madness. They know Nigerians will adapt, that is the reason for all these ... 2 Likes |

signz: He should expand the tax base so that the same money then goes back to fund the extravagant lifestyle of government officials. Are we all so foolish in this country? Presidency has more than 5 private jets, #1.7billion for food, #4.5billion for health care but still travels to UK for ear treatment. We maintain two legislative houses only so they can pass laws like providing life Pensions for their members. These issues must be addressed before we can support the introduction of further taxes. |

nextstep: But you see what their tax is being used for, they don't provide electricity for themselves, they don't have to buy generators , maintain and fuel it regularly, they don't have to dig a borehole in their houses and get a pumping machine to pump water for themselves, they don't have to contribute money to make their roads motorable, they don't have to contribute to employ security in their neighbourhoods, they don't have to fuel police car for the police to investigate a crime on their behalf....I can go on and on on what their govt does with their tax, what does the Nigerian govt. do with our tax, we are our own govt in this country. 1 Like 2 Shares |
