When she and her team won eight gold, three silver and three bronze in the Commonwealth games in 2013, I remember her dedicating that victory to GEJ. They obviously got more support under the last dispensation.

Guy stop kidding yourself look at the list of the top 8 and tell me any commonwealth nation there?

CWgames is as uncompetitive as the AAG... few top nations partake so easier to get gold.

Now if she doesn't wanna represent nigeria again... NO P, we got others ready to do that .

After all obikwelu did same and others came up.

My own is tomorrow she should not be begging? She's attained star power a bit let her find nation to represent b4 IOC tightens it's allegiance laws.

We got too much issues right now to be investing in individual sportsmen.

I'm not criticising her decision but begging her to shvt up!

If them no fit steer this ship (naija) to the right direction in my opinion they should invite foreign hands to help them out if pride will let them.

Don't put the blame of your failure on anybody else but yourself, you could have gone all the up if you have what it takes without the government support, you are a weightlifter. But at the same time shame on the FG for sponsoring pilgrimage and neglecting the Olympians but i still believe that countries like Nigeria that is with so much pressing issues to deal with should be saved the distractions of even the world Cup for now, so they can tidy up the home first. If you had gone all the way to win a medal without support and dedicate it to your country, then you might get some sympathy and love. But what have you done for Nigeria? That's what you should be asking yourself rather thinking of what Nigeria should do for you.
your first paragraph though, highly insensitive.she did her part by being available and assiduously working hard, the government failed to do their part by providing the necessary equipment needed to consolidate her efforts, really the government is entirely culpable, she has no part of the blame . We probably should start telling ourselves the truth and voicing out justified grievances, hopefully we would be heard.

someday...

Competing for Nigeria is a waste of time ,they wont appreciate it. Even those that represented the nation and won medals always have tales of woe at the end .

It is really heart rendering,i remember the joy on my late mums face during Olympic games, and the joy of watching Nigerian athletes, but this Olympic is a very sad one....it's like we don't exist.

This is really touching...

NFF needs total overhaul.

Our government needs to make athletes welfare a topmost priority, this is the only way they can win medals.

what re u saying, before she can do anything for her country (in dis case win a medal) she has to train, so u expect her to buy all those equipment by her self. well done.

you should rather be surprised at your own stunted mental development, we can't both see things the same way, and if you think it's your own opinion that is correct then it shows you reason in a unidirectional way, wait in your house the fg will come and feed you and your family don't think outside the box and find something to do, it's your type that blame others for their own failures. The point still remains that if she had what it takes she could have won the gold medal without the government support. But it's a pity in this part of the world, the fg must do everything for the citizens. You asked for it, next time you don't agree with someone's view, simply correct him by saying how you see the issue as other intelligent people have done before you

Excluding GEJ. Nigeria achieved a lot in sports under his motivating and sensitive administration.
Why is he not part of the mess we're now?

I see, this is food for the anti-buhari government people, keep masturbating on. The FG will also come distribute food for you in your various homes.

Including GEJ unfortunately.(wink wink cool).

Preparations for Olympics always start as soon as the last one has finished.

And Nigeria won zero medals at the 2012 Olympics ...which were held when GEJ was in charge.

Beyond the whole GEJ /PMB issue(this is where I get serious).....Nigeria's sports crisis is caused by bad administrators.....people enter sport admin for the purpose of money. And back in the day....long before GEJ came around....politicians used to run for office re federations. Now...no benefit.

The truth of the matter is.....winning Olympics is not done by mobilizing money about one year to the show....it is about consistent preparations, about having the right kind of coaches, about training the coaches properly , about going for competitions galore, and about wanting it harder than the next guy.

How many competitions did Mariam go for in the last four years....compared to her foreign counterparts.? How many courses did Mariam's coaches go for in the last four years? How wellhas the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation been funded for the last 4 years? Are the NWF leaders creative? What about our Sports Lottery that was supposed to fund our athletes, where is it?.

You may call me a zombie for disagreeing with you....but the fact is....GEJ and many of our past leaders, and this admin are doing nothing for sports in this country. And the leadership of the varied sports federations are doing nothing either. Developing sports goes beyond money.
Seriously I do not want to get involved in the GEJ/PMB debate but there's no denying the fact that GEJ was more motivating for our sportsmen/woman than PMB. Even Mariam Usman herself confirmed this, for according to her 2012 was better, she had better training in 2012 and her result was better.
