The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is set to rehabilitate the 414 grazing reserve centres and stock routes across the country, what it described as steps taken to end the clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country. fulani National Coordinator, Grazing Reserve Rehabilitation at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mahmud Ibrahim, disclosed this while speaking during a sensitisation and mobilisation programme on the issue at Wawazange Grazing Reserve in Dukkku Local Council of Gombe State. Ibrahim said government would not rest until the lingering crisis between farmers and cattle breeders ended. According to him, the project, which is being carried out by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Agriculture, is in conjunction with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria to curtail the crisis among farmers and herdsmen in the country. He said 10 states had already been mandated for the rehabilitation of the grazing reserves and stock routes. National Secretary of the breeders’ association, Baba Ngajarma, lauded the effort made by the government, saying that the project would sensitise farmers and herdsmen, adding that they must shun violence and embrace one another. Fed Govt MUST NOT bring the said ''rehabilitation'' to the east cos NO grazing reserves ever existed in the east. You CAN'T rehabilitate what never existed. |

shyling: Some don't seem to appreciate the opportunity cattle rearing (having them ranched) as there opportunities in rearing them for milk, beef, the dung providing biogas for cooking and powering generators then the slurry which is the "waste" from the biogas is being generated serving as potent organic fertilizer. It is not the exclusive of the Fulanis as anyone with knowledge can run a cattle farm. |

Why is the govt in grazing business. Where are these grazing reserves? What route are the cows going to take to the reserves? People's farms or trucked? This is not going to end well. Nigerians need to resist it while they still can now. These grazing reserves are going to double as kidnap/killing fields and arms caches, making it easy to kill people in host communities. Mumu Nigerians are sleeping at the wheel again. Where is the outrage from the people? Even the wailers who wail over anything have been silent on this or am I missing something? No protest of any kind as we watch Benue moves to other states. These are issues states should be suing Fg for but the kind of tribal politics we have won't let that happen. |
