dboss444: We communicated. Seems what you have available as sent is peeled egusi. While I haven't been able to confirm the bag size of the egusi, it sounds way too cheap to be realistic. However, this creates an opportunity for sale in Bwari, Abuja and environs if real as a modu of peeled egusi is N500 in some markets. You may wish to post a pix of the sack here so we can ascertain the size and make market decision |

dboss444: There are numerous ways we can improve on storage via the agric produce value chain. For the discerning mind, opportunities abound Currently, we have very few companies who address tomato wastage by establishing puree centers. Similarly you have a Dangote trying to address the rice problem in Jigawa. Our primitive ways of farming also create it's own challenges as harvest cannot be spaced and are seasonal. Wastage occur initially at the point of planting as seed varieties are mismatched with soil texture, leading to poor and substandard grain which can't stand the test of time |
Re: STORAGE/HOARDING Bussiness Of Agriculture by dboss444: 9:06pm On Aug 30, 2016 |
Olayimikami: The price has gone up to 22,000 but for a modu to be 500 is so so expensive, but there are two types of peeled egusi we have the machine peeled and the hand peeled the hand peeled is more expensive but guy 500 per modu mayb the modu size is quite different. |

Bigtree007: Will add you up. Please note that agric storage/hoarding is not a get rich quick scheme as there are risk involved, and if well mitigated and hedged; appreciable profit can be made. The only thing that sets you up for failure is greed when prices move north and you want to over maximize profit. |

Back home after a gruesome 10 hours drive; having been led on to believe prices of melon (egusi) are cheaper in Ugba than nasarawa. Definitely more expensive though cleaner. Size 29 bag was offered to us @21k but we declined the offer to buy. Modu sizes are also smaller and peeled egusi sold @N500 for that modu. Maybe the yam market makes a more viable option. We made a stop over at both the Ugba and Zaki biam market Lesson learnt: Do not believe all you hear, always do your feasibility study. For those making assertions as regards figures and sizes, please be factual and objective. Will be lurking around to counter unverified claims On a good note, at least I met the humbly @dboss444 and we had time to chat though briefly 1 Like |

Kamkamdd: Benue is definitely cheaper. Niger? Not a popular option. Think Saki in Kwara/Oyo? Or Lokogoma in nasarawa are other alternatives depending on proximity |

Olayimikami:tanx bro!Sori 4 dat long journey witout getting wat u wanted.Mi destination is port harcout. So whc do u think will be cheaper from d locations u mentioned? |
Re: STORAGE/HOARDING Bussiness Of Agriculture by Olayimikami: 5:12am On Sep 09, 2016 |
Kamkamdd: Lokogama in Nasarawa is the closest to you. However, do confirm variety eaten in PH before purchase. Likely "Makakusa" or "Benue 1" Benue though has the beauty of having more varieties to pick from |
