– Eight people were burnt to death after as a result of
alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad

– The tragedy occured after a dispute between a
Christian man and his Muslim friend

A 12-hour curfew was announced in Talata-Mafara
community in Zamfara state following a violent attack
and killing of eight people.

According to the local sources, the unnamed student of
of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic has allegedly made a
blasphemous statement against Islam and Prophet
Muhammad in particular during a quarell with his
Muslim friend.

Shortly afterwards he was beaten to a pulp by a furious
mob. NAN reports that the young man was then rushed
to a nearby hospital by the man, whose name was
simply given as Tajudeen.

However, enraged with a good Samaritan’s act the
faithful set his house on fire along with eight people in
it. The reports about the incident still remain sketchy
and it’s unclear whether the student or his rescuer
survived.

Zamfara police imposed an indefinite curfew in the
town to restore peace in the area, calling on religious
leaders to pacify their congregation and ensure no
violent mood among them.

Governor Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari joined hundreds of
people to bury the deceased persons. Meanwhile, the
polytechnic university leadership has closed down the
institution with immediate effect for sanity.
