It has come to my notice as chief sanitisation officers that some advertiser(s) who was/were accused of misinforming and misdirecting nairalanders that vehicles were sold when in actual sense were not sold have devised a new antic to perpetrate their activities in a bid to continue to mislead fellow forumites.
The new method is to advertise vehicles with tampered vin numbers claiming it is brand new and hence the vin check exemption

please note that when a vehicle manufactured in the usa has no record on autocheck or carfax, the result of such checks are always different from when the vin is incorrect and does not match the v i n decoding system.

In a desperate move for the perpetrators to get away with this new activity, one, two or three characters from the VIN are misrepresented, making it almost impossible for the vin record to be traced.

We promise to continue to expose fraudulent and misrepresentation of vehicle details which contradicts the stipulated guidelines on this forum

The V i n decoding system shall be explained : every digit or alphabet on a v i number can be decoded, the first 11 alphabets for most particular brand and model of a vehicle should correlate because each character has a generalised code.

HOW TO DECODE A VIN NUMBER.

As you can see in the graphic below, the VIN is broken down into six parts:

Make/Model: (Digits 1-3) This breaks out the make, model and manufacturer of the vehicle.

Vehicle Features: (Digits 4-cool These digits identify the various features of the specific model.

Verifying #: (Digit 9) Using a complex mathematical formula this number determines whether or not the information has been faked.

Model Year: (Digit 10) This number or letter describes the year the Manufacturer Year for the car.

Assembly Plant: (Digit 11) This single digit identifies the assembly plant.

Sequence Of Model Production: (Digit 12-17) These digits indicate the order in which the vehicle left the assembly line.

The first digit in the VIN will always be the country of manufacture. There are numerous country codes, but the general ones are:

    * USA: 1, 4 or 5
    * Canada: 2

    * Mexico: 3
    * Japan: J
    * Korea: K
    * England: S
    * Germany: W
    * Italy: Z
    * Sweden: Y
    * Australia: 6
    * France: V
    * Brazil: 9[b]

This thread is a Revelation, We shall highlight the step by step to decoding a vin number

We're going to use the VIN: 1ZVHT82H485113456 from the photo above as the sample VIN we work from. By the end, we'll know a lot about this "mystery" vehicle.

Our first decoding challenge is to figure out who made this vehicle, found in the digits: 1ZV

The first digit in the make code will always be the country of manufacture.
