(sos) An Appeal For Consideration Of Kwasu Students Plight by Damjoy(m): 9:23am On Aug 26, 2016 |
The Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State Dear Sir, (SOS) AN APPEAL FOR CONSIDERATION OF STUDENTS PLIGHT I hope this Mail meets you well sir. For the caring and Fatherly Vice Chancellor I have known over the years, I am optimistic that you will read, understand, and attend to my concerns which I have carefully listed out. As a student of this great institution for some considerable number of years now, I must say that throughout my time here, i have seen you perform wonders within a limited period of time, and I have seen your relentless efforts in achieving your desired goal of making KWASU a world class University. I agree with Donald McGannon that “Leadership is action, not position”, I must say that you have indeed been a Leader, for your many doings are much louder than the position you presently occupy. If only we had eminent persons like you in today’s governance; notwithstanding, KWASU is very lucky to have you as its Vice- Chancellor. Frankly speaking, I admire you whenever you speak and talk about the giant strides you have achieved so far, I really admire the fact that you make it sound as a collective effort with the term “WE”, which shows that you are a Leader and not a BOSS. Moving away from your academic achievements, your fatherly approach and considerations is non-comparable. I remember vividly during the 2014/2015 academic session when additional fees were introduced, I saw a fatherly VC appeal to his students that he never approved such, while also directing that their monies be returned to them immediately. I also can remember how you considered the plights of students as regards the payment of Departmental Fee in the 2015/2016 academic session by extending the deadline as far as during the Rain Semester Examinations. Mr Vice Chancellor sir, I must admit that no institution in Nigeria except Kwara State University has a Vice Chancellor who can combine being a Father with the activities of an administrator. More grease to your performance Sir. As we however begin the 2016/2017 academic session sir, the economic realities in Nigeria is far worsening than what we have experienced in previous years. As I write this letter, a dollar goes for as much as 402 Naira, this has led to increases in commodities not to say, the inability of many private firms and even various tiers of government to pay salaries of their employees, which I believe you are also aware of sir. I am not surprised that KWASU does not owe its staff in this economic hardship the country currently finds itself, even with its limited resources, all thanks to your wonderful leadership. Sir, I believe there would have been appeals from different quarters, and concerns raised about the 2016/2017 payment timeline, and I know that you are not ignoring them but only planning carefully as to what to do. I want you to understand that a few of us might be able to meet the deadline, but what will be the plight of people who fall under the “Many” category if they could not make it to the deadline. Mr Vice Chancellor sir, am sure you will be aware that some parents have two, while some three wards in the school, with presumably other siblings to also cater for their academic needs. I know of colleagues who are in their final year and are of the same home, while they also have younger siblings who just got admitted to the university. Sir, undoubtedly it would be hard for this families to cater for the needs of their wards within the specified window of payment. I want you to know that many of us are in KWASU because it offers us better academic opportunities and explorations, the Entrepreneurship course, being a lucid example. Notwithstanding the fact that, the school also needs money to run its operations, all we ask for is an accommodating extension that will allow students fulfil their monetary duties as a bona fide students. You have always seen us as your children, and no matter our defaults, your fatherly care have always superseded whatever actions you intended to take. We are indeed going to appreciate for a long time to come your consideration, for we also know that it is not an easy decision to make. I pray that Almighty Allah continue to guide you in your relentless efforts in making us world class students. I pray he continue to shower on you, your family, and the KWASU community in general with his unending blessings and mercies. Thank you Sir, as we anticipate favourable response from you. Ma salam. |
