Hello experts. My 1996 Maxima shuts off at stop signs or when am not driving fast. Engine shuts of for no reason while driving. Sometimes it picks up when I shift to neutral and restart but goes off again immediately I shift to Drive unless I have to rev it for few seconds. Please any idea what could be the problem? |

1996 Nissan Maxima would have been to hell and back with so many mechanics meddling with its electricals and engine electronics. Look for a good technician that can sort it out. There will be too many suggestions here that would throw you off balance. 1 Like |

feelme3:If you are in Lagos, take it to Gazzuz, he usually pops up in ever car thread So being a Nissan, this is usually the problem of crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor (Google happens to be a very good friend) or that your car engine is having a misfire in one more of the cylinders, But I believe your case is one of the position sensors, use Google to search for the locations of these two sensors, start the car then tap on the sensors, I mean tap it strongly but not whack or break it do it like you are knocking on someone's door with respect and don't just tick it either use a screw driver wooden handle to it, if it stalls then that sensor is the problem. If you don't find anything then, take it to Gazzuz 1 Like |

Hello feelme3, Would also be interested in knowing how you got this resolved also. My maxima is experiencing the same symptoms. Had fuel pump changed, sensors changed, distributor coil and cables changed but car still stalls and does hard starting most times. |

buddie: Hello buddie, I got the stalling issue fixed finally. Told a friend about the issue and he guessed it could be either the camshaft sensor or Air flow meter. So I decided to change both. Camshaft sensor cost 3k and Air flow meter 4k from ladipo. I no know whether dem cheat me for price o. But once the Air flow meter was changed car felt like engine was overhauled. Both engine sound and response and it's been 2 days now no stalling or hard starting. Decided to install the new camshaft sensor since I already bought it. In all spent like 10k. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Would be sending the motor to autologic place by next week for full diagnosis and repairs. @feelme3 did you source for those spare parts yourself at ladipo or your technician did? Those prices should quite fair comparing against what I have spent on my car so far and issue still persists |

buddie: @buddie Na me waka go o. But went with a trusted friend that is into auto biz. We just went round, asked questions where we can get sellers dealing on Nissan and settle for the best price. You'll be amazed how much you can safe by making time out to go source parts. So where is autologic located? |

@Feelme3 Is the non stalling experience still the same months after this fix? Has the car refused to stall again after this fix? Can we possibly share contacts? |
Re: Nissan Maxima 1996 Stalled While Driving by feelme3(m): 7:15pm On Dec 31, 2016 |
buddie: @buddie. Yes bro. Haven't experienced the stalling ever since. However, recently I started experiencing a drag...I don't know the term but like if I have to make a complete stop in traffic, when I try to move again, the car will just rev without power, then a jerk and it catches. Most of the time I have to disengage and engage the gear again. Doesn't happen frequently but when it does its embarrassing. Haven't been able to figure what the problem is yet. |
