This 405 hour Nursing Unit Clerk program includes 255 hours of classroom instruction and up to 150 hours of practical experience. Upon successful completion participants will have the knowledge and skills to perform the duties required of a Nursing Unit Clerk in a hospital, clinic, or community care facility. Graduates of this program will be able to:
• communicate effectively with patients, visitors and other members of the healthcare agency
• understand and be able to work within the stated policies and procedures of the healthcare agency
• function effectively in a fast paced often hectic environment
• understand the healthcare agency, the various departments, their functions and how they interact with each other
• process physicians' orders and requests
• identify, pronounce, and spell names of commonly used drugs or procedures performed in the healthcare agency
• perform clerical skills relating to the healthcare agency unit and patient chart records
• be familiar with commonly used abbreviations and symbols
• perform standard receptionist duties

Dates
Program Start November 15, 2016. Program completion approximately November 2017.
Schedule
Offered on a part-time basis - Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6PM-9PM) and every other Saturday (9AM-12PM). A full class schedule will be provided to accepted students.

This program qualifies for payment plans. Upon acceptance, any student wishing to apply for a payment plan must make an appointment with the Program Coordinator, Julia McLachlan in the Continuing Education department, 250-561-5846.

Application process and timeline
This program is currently accepting applications for the November 2016 intake. Applications are $40 and should be accompanied by supporting documents indicating you have met the entrance requirements. Application forms and instructions are available
Students will be accepted on a first-qualified, first-accepted basis.

On any given day where we have more students qualify than remaining available seats, a computerized random selection process will take place for those remaining seats. In other words - if there is a tie, it will be broken randomly by a computer.
Accepted students must pay full course tuition by September 15, 2016. Refunds will not be given after this date.
