He opened his eyes. What woke him up? He felt the cool air circulated by the air-conditioner. The electricity was back. There had been light off for two days straight. The agent that helped him to get the place convinced him that there was hardly light off in Bariga. It was a big lie. The reverse was was the case. He had to buy a medium size generator. As an I.T consultant for four major firms, he needed constant power supply.

The knocks on the door filtered into his ears. Aha! That was what woke him up. He pulled his weight up, got down from the bed and strode to the door in his blue checkered boxers.

He turned the key, grabbed the door-knob and pulled. The yellow bulb dangling from the roof illuminated the veranda. He saw his six feet tall, light skinned, broad shouldered neighbour standing at the doorway. He had a distressed look on his face.

"Kalu, what's up?" he stiffened a yawn.

"Things are not up at all. Everything is down."

Timothy leaned against the door and eyed him.

"I have not eaten all day. The firms I liase with, none have contacted me in the last two weeks. I am so broke, the landlord is also breathing down my neck."

He raised an eyebrow, "Are you owing him rent?"

"No. I haven't paid the electrical, water and security bills for this month."

"Oh," he folded his arms across his thick bare chest.

"I will be forever grateful to you if you can lend me some money."

He eyed him.

"Even if it is ten thousand naira."

"Hey! Where will I get that kind of money?"

"Okay, seven thousand. I will give you back as soon as possible," he pleaded.

He began to shake his head.

"Timothy abeg now. You know we run the same kind of business."

"Exactly!" he pointed at him, "You need to organize yourself. Learn to manage your funds while you await the next job."

"I know, I know. I am trying."

"I can assist you with five thousand naira."

He grinned with gratitude.

"I want my money back asap," he pulled the tip of his ear.

"No wahala."

He sighed and went in.

Together Forever 3

Light brown skin, five feet eight inches tall, brown eyed, pear-shaped Osayuwamwen pulled the door knob and went into the dark room. She closed the door and pressed the switch. The bulb hanging from the ceiling beside the fan came on, iluminating the twelve by fourteen inches room.

She dropped her red hand bag on the bed and sat down. She kicked off her red peep-toe wet-look shoes, removed her ear-rings, necklace, wrist-watch and dropped them on the bedside drawer.

The thought of taking her bath made her sigh with relief. She hoped that there would be no queue outside the bathroom which was shared by nothing less than thirteen people.

It was a good thing that she moved out of her parents' place two years ago. Over there, they also had just one toilet, bathroom and kitchen shared by over twenty-one people.

She got out of her work clothes, wrapped her curvy frame in a long thick fabric, threw a brown towel on her shoulder, picked up her bucket and strode out in her white dunlop slippers.

Osayuwamwen covered the half-pattern styled long brown and gold curly weave-on with an hair net and walked towards the bathroom which was at the back of the bungalow. She sighed with relief when she saw the door of the empty bathroom opened.

She passed by the kitchen, noticed the landlord and his wife seated outside the unpainted building, eating from a bowl of corn. She greeted them and waved at the women in the kitchen.

Ngozi, a mother of three girls in their early twenties was seated by her cooking pot. Her girls were cutting vegetables and breaking melon seeds. She waved back at her.

Kemi, a mother of three boys under the age of ten waved back at her. Her eldest son was washing the dishes while the younger ones were seated close to their mother, staring at the pot.

She couldn't imagine how they faired. Father, mother and children, cramped in the small room. She shook the thought away and went into the bathroom. She placed her bucket under the tap, turned it on and shut the door.

She stepped out of the bathroom dripping wet, holding her towel and bucket. Two of her neighbours queued at the door.

"Good evening," she smiled at them.

"Evening," they chorused.

She started to walk away. Timothy dropped his bucket and followed her.

"How was work?"

"Tiring," she glanced at him.

"I can imagine."

"Working in Gbagada and living in Bariga is a nightmare."

"I concur."

"Maybe I will feel better when I buy a car."

Wide dark eyes, "Cash madam!"

She started to laugh. He was the closest person to her in the compound. He was God-fearing, friendly, kind and had an healthy dose of humour. He was also good looking, the kind of guy she wouldn't think twice about dating.

She wasn't sure if he was in a relationship, unlike Kalu who changed women like baby diapers. His affairs never exceeded three months. He was an incorrigible womaniser.

She liked Timothy. She wondered if he had any feelings for her. She hoped he did. She turned and met his gentle, dark intent stare.

The loud music woke him up. He was sure that it was coming from Kalu's room. He picked up his tee-shirt, put it on, got down from the bed and marched out of the room.

He went to the room opposite his and knocked. He leaned against the wall and waited. The door swung open and his neighbour came out in his boxers.

"What's up?"

"Abeg, your music is too loud."

"Oh! Sorry. I am in a celebration mood," he grinned from ear to ear.

He narrowed his gaze. Celebration? That meant only one thing. Kalu had just been paid for a job.

"Where is my money?"

"One minute," he backed into the room.

He peeped through the slightly opened door and saw a half-naked lady seated on the bed, devouring what looked like fried chicken laps and drinking from a bottle of wine.

He gave a shake of head and moved away. Kalu had an habit of squandering his money on whatever caught his fancy. He lacked the ability to manage his income and rarely listened when advised. He pitied him. He was going to learn the hard way.

Osayuwamwen stepped out of Doveland Furnitures Limited building. She counted the money in her wallet and mused over the amount as she sauntered towards the gate. In the next two weeks, her salary would be paid. She needed to manage what she had left till then. She heard her phone ringing, searched the bag and brought out the Techno phone.

"Hello."

"Sayu where are you?"

She recognized her eldest brother's voice, "Am in Gbagada."

"Still at work?"

"Just leaving."

"Good. Come straight to Gbagada General Hospital."

Her heart missed a beat, "What's happening?"

"Dad and mum were admitted this evening."

Her eyes grew wide in panic, "Admitted? What happened?"

"Typhoid and Malaria."

"Oh my God! Jesus o," she raised her head and stared at the sky.

"Get here fast. Fly if possible."

She hung up and hastened her steps. She hated sickness and diseases. It was an unplanned occurence that swallowed ones' hard earned money. She prayed within, asking God to heal her parents speedily.

She saw her eldest brother, Osarodion, at the hospital gate when she got down from the bus. She crossed the street and walked up to him.

"How are they?" anxiety filled voice

"They are on drips."

"Wow," she met his tired eyes.

"We need to contribute money to pay their hospital bills and buy their medication."

She sighed heavily and looked away.

"We need about fifty-eight thousand naira."

Her brown eyes flew back to his pale face.

"I have fifteen thousand. Ikponmwosa said he has ten thousand. Nekpen and Adesuwa has contributed eleven thousand."

She pressed her lips together. She had just thirteen thousand naira in her wallet. It wasn't enough.

"I have thirteen thousand."

He folded his arms, "We need nine thousand naira more."

She looked up at the dark sky.

"By the time they are discharged, we will still need money to take care of them."

"So we need like thirty thousand."

"Or more."

"God help us," she closed her eyes and breathed a prayer. They needed financial provision fast!

Kalu opened the door. His face brightened when he saw her. His excited hazel gaze seized her up. The big white short-sleeve tee-shirt barely hid her heavy bosom. His mouth watered at the thought of chewing the soft flesh. The way the three quarter jean clung to her hips, it gave him a view of her abundant backside. His heart did a sommersault. If only she would accept his proposal and date him, he would make her his queen and take care of her every need.

"Hi," she didn't like the way he was staring at her.

"Hi," he grinned.

"I need your help."

He smiled like he had just won a lottery. He stepped back into the room and beckoned at her. She tucked in a strand of her brown and gold weave-on hair and walked in. It was her first time in his room.

"What can I do for you?"

She settled on the two settee facing the 40 inch plasma television and glanced at him.

"Please borrow me forty thousand naira. I will give you back end of the month."

His intent gaze remained on her pleading face.

"When are you going to accept my proposal?" she felt stripped by his roaming eyes.

"Proposal?" a blank look replaced her sad countenance.

"Don't play dumb," he eyed her, "I want you to become my woman."

She frowned, "But, you have a girlfriend."

"She means nothing to me. You are the one I want."

She hissed and eyed him.

"Just say yes. I will take care of you."

She hissed again and got to her feet, "I am not interested."

He got up and approached her, "I am handsome and comfortable. What else do you want?"

"Does God reign in your life?"

He laughed, "I can follow you to church if that will make you happy."

"It doesn't work that way," shakes head.

"Come on girl," he drew her close and tried to kiss her.

She pushed him away and eyed him, "What's wrong with you?"

"I want you," he blew her a kiss.

Irritation rose within her. She headed towards the door.

"I will triple the money you asked for."

She stopped and glanced back at him. His firm stare replaced his initial teasing look.

"I will give you one hundred and twenty thousand naira if you agree to spend the night with me."

Her jaw dropped in shock. He closed the gap between them and wrapped his arms around her.

"I will give anything to have you all to myself."

"You are crazy," she pressed her hands against his chest and pushed.

"Absolutely, I have gone mad," he claimed her lips.

Alarmed and infuriated, she pushed harder, eager to be free from his assault. Her anger reached its peak when she felt his hands grabbing and squeezing her buttocks.

"Get your dirty hands off me!" she tore her lips away from his.

"I want you," his husky voice echoed in her ear.

She set herself free from his firm grip and slapped him across the face, "Don't you ever come near me again!" misty eyes, she stepped back, visibly shaken.

He touched the side of his face, "You are so soft and sweet."

She turned and marched towards the door.

"I will be here when you definitely change your mind."

She ignored him and opened the door.

She slammed the door and tried to hold back the tears. Why did she ask for his help in the first place? She saw the way he threw money around during the weekend and had thought that he might listen to her and offer to help, but, he acted worse than a dog that needed to be castrated. She could still smell him on her. The way he touched and kissed her flashed through her mind's eye. She cringed. If he dared come near her again, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

"Sayu."

She raised her head and saw Timothy standing by his door in a black suit, black tie, white shirt and black leather shoes. He looked like one of the actors in the 'Men In Black' movie.

"Are you all right?" he noticed her wet eyes.

She shook her head.

"What's wrong?"

She started to cry.

"Hey, come here," he stretched out both hands.

She ran into his arms and her sobbing grew louder.

"Hey, baby girl, don't cry. Everything is going to be all right."

Her tears soaked his shirt and her pain tugged at his heart.

He made her sit on the chair, pulled off his jacket, loosened the tie and dropped them on the bed.

"Talk to me," he sat beside her. She stared back at him, his concern for her was obvious.

"My parents were admitted today."

Eyes wide, "Both of them?"

"Yes. They had typhoid and malaria."

He reached out for her hands, "I am so sorry."

"The money my siblings and I contributed is incomplete," tears slided down her light brown face.

"How much do you need?"

"Forty thousand naira."

"Okay, I can help."

She sighed with relief.

"I will transfer fifty thousand naira into your account tonight."

"Thank you. I will pay you back at the..."

"No, no. I am just making my own contributions. Please stop crying," he brought out an handkerchief from his pocket and gave it to her.

"Thank you so much," she dabbed her face with the handkerchief and stared back at him with gratitude.

"What are friends for?" he winked at her and smiled.

She smiled back at him and thank God for answered prayers.

Osayuwamwen stepped into the compound through the half-open rusted gate. The thought of making jollof rice and fried plantain for dinner filled her mind. A few feet away from her door, she saw Kalu coming out of his room in his boxers, carrying a bucket and holding a towel.

"I waited for you last night," he smiled when he saw her.

She ignored him and unlocked her door.

"I enjoyed our kiss and the softness of your body was mind blowing," he licked his lips, "Stop playing hard to get. I know you want me too," he dropped the bucket and approached her.

"I believe that you have a death wish," she pulled off one of her pencil heeled shoes and pointed it at him.

He stopped and raised both hands, "I come in peace."

"One step closer and I will give your John Thomas tribal marks."

He took a few steps back, "Take it easy Dragon lady."

She hissed, opened the door and limped into the room.

"I live to fight another day," he started to laugh, picked up his bucket and headed for the bathroom.

She sat on a short wooden stool in front of the stove. She used the tip of the wrapper around her waist to open the hot pot. Steam gushed out. When it cleared, the red coloured cooked rice stared back at her. She licked her lips and grinned.

"That smells good."

She turned towards the doorway and saw Timothy holding a small pot.

"Evening."

"Evening, how was work today?"

"Tiring, am so eager for the weekend."

He chuckled and came to stand beside her, "Hope the rice is enough for two."

"There is love in sharing."

He rubbed his belly, "Can't wait. The aroma of the rice is magnificent."

She blushed and covered the pot.

"How are your parents?"

She looked up at him, "They will be discharged tomorrow."

"Thank God," he sighed with relief.

"Thank you for the..."

"Thank God," he cut in.

"Let me have your plate."

"Or my pot?" he winked at her.

She started to laugh, "Okay, fine," the food was enough for four people. She didn't mind sharing it with him.

"Yipee!" he made a dance move.

Good plot though but I hope you don't mind my observations

Your story is too direct and kinda jumpy-jumpy like as if you are in a haste. Please take your time to write i'm pretty sure to come out with something greater.

More grease to your elbow.
