The street (Omoruyi street in benin) was recently built-up but the drainage system was neglected.

Now, look at it state after a heavy rain fall.

Nigerian government would never learn....a newly constructed road is totally useless without a proper drainage system to follow...all they know is to cut cost and swallow the rest of the money...

Another thing is, check out how narrow the street is. There is hardly any room for drainage construction, except part of the houses facing the street are demolished. The houses have their front entrance on the street!
The houses did not adhere to any building codes, which requires a certain distance to be as setback observed from the road.
I'm certain none of the landlords will accept a drainage channel over part of their building getting demolished. Perhaps this is exactly what happened here.

There is a drainage system. But it wasn't rehabilitated. It's covered with sands and other substances.
